Today BIG Something released a new interactive exploratory website that features eight HD videos.

BIG Something began releasing one new HD video each week starting May 23. The eighth and final release of the series will post today at http://www.youtube.com/user/TheBIGSomething. The videos were filmed in HD using multiple high-end cameras and professional multi-track audio, making the quality far superior to the average live videos posted on YouTube. The band has also introduced a new interactive exploratory website that will allow fans to browse the videos and more in a fun and different way. http://StoriesFromTheMiddleOfNowhere.com/

bigsomeBIG Something's debut CD release, Stories from the Middle of Nowhere, won top honors as Home Grown Music Network's "Studio Album of the Year"! "This is an expansive concept album detailing the life and times of Pinky, a figure who is part Robin Hood, part Clyde, part neighborhood Pimp.  The album offers excellent musicianship and a spirit of fun as it details these adventures, proving to be a remarkable debut for BIG Something...The tracks on this album blend many different styles of rock and jam to create a savory package, lengthy in scope, well-delivered in execution...The tracks are imbued with elements of funk, jazz, fusion jam, and rock, while the story of Pinky provides a nice backdrop and centerpiece for the album...In employing robust rhythms, technically polished playing, and a sense of flair that is fun and disarming, BIG Something's debut release proves to be excellent." J. Evan Wade -www.HomeGrownMusic.net

Stories from the Middle of Nowhere was recorded and mixed in Raleigh by distinguished NC producer John Custer, who was a Grammy-nominee for his work with the southern Metal band, Corrosion of Conformity.  According to the bands bass player, Doug Marshall, "recording with Custer was like getting schooled by a musical Jedi. He helped us realize our true potential as a band. And because making this album felt and sounded so dramatically different than anything else we've ever recorded, we knew it was time to re-think our band name." Prior to some lineup changes and this recording the band was previously known as The Anonymous Band.

In an era which seems like everything has been done before, Ultraviolet Hippopotamus has carved themselves a niche sound of its own with genuinely heartfelt, imaginative lyrics coupled with compelling composition and explosive instrumentation. The music created by this five piece band from Grand Rapids, Michigan, is progressively diverse, often switching between many different genres during the course of a show. Sometimes even throughout the duration of a song. Their live shows have become an avenue for the band to build upon the core of their songs, exploring new ground, creating tension and taking risks for those moments of pure improvisational ecstasy, giving fans an original experience within every show.

PURCHASE ALBUM

UV Hippo's highly anticipated third album Square Pegs Round Holes, is not only a collection of songs strong enough to stand on their own, but when pieced together, form a cohesive process that brings back that long-lost love for listening to an entire album beginning to end. Songs like Giants and The Scar showcase the bands ability to compose sing-along singles, while songs such as Bob the Wondercat, The Marine, and Medicine highlight the bands skill in orchestrating layers of musical bliss.

"There are some wonderfully introspective and finely crafted songs that truly caught my ear and showed a wonderful depth of character and insightful song writing sense."
-Michael Travis - String Cheese Incident, EOTO

"The Jam Band keeps the groove moving with cool arrangements, surprising twists and great vocals. This is a jam band of joyous proggy fun"

The Eight Annual Spring Fling May 14, 2011

Over the last 8 years, the kind folks at Telepathic Productions have produced a series of rowdy, off-kilter “Spring Flings” that have provided a wealth of memories and crazy experiences to past attendees.

springfling2011_01I have attended 5 such Flings in different Mays over the years, and have always left the event with a strong sense of camaraderie, a feeling of excitement, and sometimes, the lingering vestiges of a hangover. The Fling has always prided itself on being a somewhat underground event, and has featured an excellent cadre of “headliners” over the years.
