Perpetual Groove, Larry Keel, Zach Deputy, Big Daddy Love, Urban Soil & more!

This Labor Day weekend in the beautiful mountains of Patrick County, VA, Front Porch Fest will commemorate its tenth anniversary with a Homecoming celebraon, bringing together friends and family to enjoy both new and returning acts on three stages.  As always, the festival will continue to feature the best in local, regional, and national music and vendors while raising money and awareness for local community organizations and charities.

The initial 2018 band lineup released in April featured bluegrass dynamos the Larry Keel Experience, the folk stylings of Bristol, Tennessee-based Annabelle's Curse, and 2017 festival favorites Dr. Bacon, along with other local and regional acts.  Now the festival is adding even more star power to their lineup, including naonal jam band legends Perpetual Groove, the "island-infused drum n' bass gospel ninja soul" of multi-instrumentalist Zach Deputy, fan favorites Big Daddy Love and Urban Soil, and more.  The festival will also continue to highlight the best in local talent, including Waiting to Exhale, a Patrick County group fronted by two women vocalists, both daughters of hard working Appalachian families with roots deep and long in the mountains of Virginia.

Front Porch Fest is produced each Labor Day by One Family Productions, a volunteer nonprofit organization with the mission of promoting and supporting community enrichment and growth in their nave southwest Virginia.  The festival is a family friendly event and kids are welcome - they can groove to the tunes while doing arts and cras and other fun activities in the Children's Area.  Both single-day and weekend tickets are available, including camping, car camping, and RV passes.  In addition, the festival features plenty of food and merchandise vendors to ensure an enjoyable weekend.

In addition, five solo 'artists at large' will perform during the festival: Jeff Sipe (drums), Ron Holloway (saxophone), Josh Shilling (piano), Jay Starling (dobro) and Wallace Mullinax (guitar).

The festival has already announced more than 20 bands, including headliners The Wood Brothers, JJ Grey & Mofro and Robert Randolph & The Family Band
"We're thrilled to host so many wonderful bands at Rooster Walk this year,' said festival co-founder Johnny Buck. "From top to bottom, I think this is the strongest lineup in our 10-year history."

Presented by title sponsor Bassett Furniture, Rooster Walk has been named one of the top five festivals in Virginia by the Richmond-Times Dispatch.
The 'King & Strings' set is a first; Marcus King and Billy Strings have never met, let alone played together. Each is a fan of the other, however, and this genre-bending set will blend progressive bluegrass with southern rock/blues. World-renowned drummer Jeff Sipe will also take part, sitting in on drums for the latter portion of the set.

In addition to four days of amazing music on five stages, the family-friendly Rooster Walk will offer a wide variety of kids' activities, craft beer, food/arts vendors and beautiful on-site camping.

Rooster Walk Inc. is a community-nonprofit dedicated to promoting music, arts and education in its home of Martinsville/Henry County. A portion of festival proceeds go to the Penn-Shank Memorial Scholarship as well as the Rooster Walk Music Instrument Program for entry-level band programs in Martinsville/Henry County public schools. The festival is proud to have Bassett Furniture return as its title sponsor once again.

Rooster Walk Inc. has donated more than $150,000 to local and regional charities since its first festival in 2009.

Marcus King / Umphrey’s McGee Asheville, NC 2018

Marcus King / Umphrey’s McGee Asheville, NC 2018
Umphrey’s McGee just slayed it for two nights at the US Cellular Center in Asheville, North Carolina.

I'm privileged to have been a part of celebrating their 20 years together and hearing some of their latest studio album 'It's Not Us.' Ump aren't partying alone though. In Asheville, Marcus King Band opened up both nights, and the after show was delivered by Chicago-based Mungion in a separate venue just down the street. Both Marcus King Band and Mungion are on a course to go far in the music world. If you haven't already, you better see them soon! You will NOT be disappointed.

Panic En LaPlaya from PELP Virgins

Panic En LaPlaya from a PELP Virgins
Panic en la Playa was one of those shows that stand out above the rest.

Throughout our lives, we have had the good fortune to go to many shows and festivals. Though we have never been to a bad one, some stand out above the rest. Widespread Panic's Panic en la Playa (PELP) Siete was one of those. PELP began in 2012 as a way to bring die hard Panic fans together in a beautiful location for the vacation of a lifetime! PELP Uno was such a success, the band decided the adventure must continue.

Keller Williams - Raleigh NC 2/2/18

Last Friday I hoped in my Van and headed to Raleigh to catch one of my favorite musicians. It had been a while since the Lincoln Theater had hosted Keller Williams and his return brought a sold-out show. As you are probably aware, Keller has many projects and various musical groups, all of which never fail to deliver. But of all of his awesome entities, his "Solo Multi-Instrumental Looping Act" has always been my top favorite.

29th Annual Christmas Jam

Warren Haynes’ 29th Annual Christmas Jam

When Ann Wilson walked onstage to join Gov't Mule for the final set of Warren Haynes' 29th Annual Christmas Jam, she began to sing "The snow falls hard and don't you know? The winds of Thor are blowing cold." That was an apt description of this year's Christmas Jam, which saw Western North Carolina transformed into Santa's North Pole, thanks to a massive snowstorm that no one, meteorologists nor musicians and fans, saw coming. The blizzard hit Asheville on what would have been Gregg Allman's 70th birthday, and his spirit was celebrated throughout the evening.
