Beats Antique, Papadosio, Lettuce & Dozens More to Bartow, WV this August 21-23

Presented by Stanlee Ventures, the eighth annual Camp Barefoot Music & Arts takes place August 21-23 in Bartow, WV. The multi-day camping festival features performances from Beats Antique, two sets each from Papadosio, Lettuce, and Kyle Hollingsworth Band with The Motet Horns performing a tribute to Motown, The London Souls, Kung Fu, The Motet, Zach Deputy, Brothers Past and many more.

Nestled within a beautiful meadow off the grid, Camp Barefoot’s pristine setting is a short drive from Washington DC, Richmond, Virginia Beach, Baltimore, Pittsburgh and Asheville. “We are thrilled to have a chance to build a relationship with top notch national acts but we don't forget our main purpose of bringing independent music to light,” says Scott McLain the producer of Camp Barefoot Music Festival. “To top it off we were blessed with a beautiful meadow in WV that gives us the opportunity to create this grassroots community event!"

New Member

Meet Tauk, a band that delivers a unique blend of rock-fusion with a fresh experimental spirit. Since forming earlier this decade, the NYC-based group has built an impressive DIY buzz scoring opening gigs for MOE., Robert Randolph & the Family Band, Tea Leaf Green, and sets at Gathering of the Vibes, Hangout Music Fest, Peach Festival with The Allman Brothers and Bonnaroo. Most recently, the band announced upcoming gigs at Camp Barefoot Festival and FloydFest this year.

After touring, the band then teamed up with Grammy-winning producer Robert Carranza (Jack Johnson, Mars Volta) to harness the band’s eclectic vision creating entirely instrumental tracks for their most recent album, “Homunculus.” “What’s compelling is the raw power of the band, from their light moments to full-out jamming. Music is a language that some feel and others speak – and Tauk do both very well" adds Carranza.

Tauk plans to continue to push the envelope of their musical vision, and bring that vision to all those who are listening around the country.

Sometimes fate has a funny way of bringing people together.

After three years of solo touring up and down the east coast to promote her EP, Forget Me Not, Rebekah Todd found herself searching for something more— a bigger sound that could command attention and captivate a crowd. Todd knew she needed a band.

During the summer of 2013, Todd was introduced to what would later become her band during an impromptu practice for a July 4th gig at Peasant’s Pub in Greenville, NC.  It only took one practice for Todd to realize that she had finally found the band she had been looking for for years, the band now known as Rebekah Todd & The Odyssey.

Together they quickly found that the intersection of Todd’s folk tendencies and The Odyssey’s jazz, funk, gospel leanings made for a unique and appealing soulful-folk sound that often left room for improvisational jams within Todd’s songs.  In the studio, the band laid down tracks for their recent LP, Roots Bury Deep, with the ease of a group that has been performing and arranging songs together for years.

With the recent release of Roots Bury Deep, Rebekah Todd & The Odyssey take to the road for their official album promotional tour throughout the southeast.  Todd will have strong backing support on stage from Seymour (bass), Quincy Jones (keys), Chris Knuckles (saxophone), Evan Roberson (trombone), and Brandon Shamar (drums).

With their first LP, Roots Bury Deep, Rebekah Todd & The Odyssey add a layer of storytelling to the musical foundation that has been laid before her. This 9-track album is a soulful folk gem with shades of jazz and funk that paints across the canvas of genres.  The album delivers a more textured auditory landscape and further elevates Todd’s signature solo sound.  Roots Bury Deep represents a unique musical intersection between traditional Carolinian folk and gritty New Orleans jazz.  The final product takes listeners on a journey from the deep, dark corners of loss and despair to the wide-open, bright spaces of love and hope.

Big Something and moe. - Lincoln Theatre Feb 4th 2014

Big Something and moe. - Lincoln Theatre Feb 4th 2014
Local favorites, BIG Something opened the show supporting Moe. on Tuesday, February 4th, to a full house at the Lincoln Theater in downtown Raleigh, North Carolina.

BIG Something played old favorites and new material from their latest release the self-titled CD "BIG Something".  The band substituted the lyrics during their performance of a fan favorite, Amanda Lynn, with a nod towards moe. and their fans with the phrase "Who's got my Rebubula, cause I can't find mine!"

Memorial Day Weekend in Ohio

Dark Star Orchestra and All Good Presents announce today the return of Dark Star Jubilee to Legend Valley in Thornville, OH, just 30 minutes east of Columbus, on Memorial Day Weekend May 23-25. Hosted and curated by Dark Star Orchestra, world-renowned re-creators of the Grateful Dead live experience, this third annual Jubilee festival features these artists:

Dark Star Orchestra (3 nights)
Yonder Mountain String Band
Galactic
Keller Williams with More Than A Little
New Riders of the Purple Sage
The Wailers (performing the Bob Marley album Legend in its entirety)
Anders Osborne
The Werks
Toubab Krewe
Cornmeal
UV Hippo
Rumpke Mountain Boys
The Ragbirds
Aliver Hall

plus additional artists still to be announced

The Dark Star Jubilee features an intimate setting within hallowed and historic grounds, offering up nearly 36 hours of music, all with non-overlapping sets. The stages are set up side by side allowing fans to see and hear the entirety of each and every artist listed on the lineup without having to hike between stages or choose between bands.

Attendees can camp within the concert bowl, a few hundred feet from the stage, making the experience that much more up close and personal. The Erie Reader summed up the Jubilee experience well with this passage from its review of the 2013 event: “Along with that certain electricity in the air that comes at the front of every good, long outdoor music fest, some of the first things I encountered when arriving on the Valley's grounds last weekend were a noticeable lack of hassles, a noticeable abundance of playful little kids, and a whole lot of friendly Deadheads – all there to share in the getting-down.”

Having just welcomed a new member and celebrated their 16th anniversary, Dark Star Orchestra have an exciting year ahead of them with a return to Jamaica and the oncoming milestone of surpassing the Grateful Dead’s 2318 shows played. Ever committed, the band has been endorsed by critics, fans and even all the living members of the Grateful Dead themselves have joined and played with DSO on stage. A quote by their own soundman of three decades Dan Healy puts it clear as he once said of DSO: “I can close my eyes and go back 30 years”.

Drawing from the vast Gospel and R&B scene of Richmond, VA, Keller Williams with More Than A Little is blazing new ground in the world of funk. Keller describes the project as, “funking up some of my favorite songs mixed with some interesting, familiar covers done the ‘More Than A Little Way.’ I’m proud to say that this band brings it. It’s no typical white boy funk that one may expect from this typical white boy.”

Dark Star Jubilee tickets are available now with discounted ‘Early Bird’ tickets for a 3-day GA festival pass for $109 ($40 off gate price) and for ‘Good Lovin’ VIP’ festival admission at $225 ($65 off gate price). ‘Little Star Kids’ is a $25 ticket for pre-registered children ages 4-12, who must be accompanied by a festival ticket-holding adult. Festival attendees ages three and under are free while youth above age 13 must have a full price festival pass. Gates open at noon Friday, May 23. Complete ticket options with pricing are available at www.darkstarjubilee.com.

Lotus: Royal Oak Music Theatre 01/31

Festival season is fast approaching and unless you are willing to cough up the hundreds of dollars, the time to see bands such as Lotus is now.

Jesse, Luke, Chuck, Mike and Mike made their way back to the dirty mitten this past Friday, 01/31, for a stop at the Royal Oak Music Theatre. It is a venue I had previously never been to, but after the one night stay I dare claim to place it in the top five venues in Southeastern Michigan. The bar in the front directly after the entrance gave the audience easy access to the shamelessly overpriced drinks. The main floor is spacious, but intimate enough to make for dance collaborations with fellow enthusiasts.

Jam Cruise: The world’s best floating music festival

Every year, over 3,000 music lovers of all ages pack up their shorts, swimsuits and creative costumes and head south to take a break from winter.

They converge at a south Florida cruise ship terminal, where all the stage shows and cheesy lounge singers have been kicked off the ship, replaced by some of the country’s best groups from the jam band/festival scene. It’s Jam Cruise, and the 12th floating music festival took place January 4th the first cruise on MSC’s new ship, Divina, after four years on the Poesia. It was also the first departure from the Port of Miami, which is a much nicer facility than the Port Everglades terminal. And my hat’s off to the folks at Cloud 9 Adventures and all their supporting cast.
