HGMN welcomes Barrelhouse South as our new venue affiliate.

125 W Congress St
Savannah, Georgia 31401
(912) 662-5576

Barrelhouse South is Savannah’s newest live music venue and restaurant downtown located inside city market on Congress Street. Opened the week of the famous St. Patrick’s Day parade, the venue is split into two levels with the downstairs offering different types of games for people who would still like to come but aren’t into the genre of music featured on the particular night. This new establishment is one of the only four music venues in town. The new venue hopes to be somewhat like the last successful venue in town, “Livewire”. Formally Retro and Mercury Lounge, Barrelhouse was opened by Chris Clarke the owner of popular bars such as “Seed Eco Lounge” and “Rogue Water”. His new establishment offers extraordinary live music at a national level, a unique style menu with great food to accommodate the late night crowd, a great staff full of the friendliest people, and a welcoming environment with all new renovations featuring all new appliances and equipment.

The music equipment at Barrelhouse includes a twelve-channel mixer, monitors, subwoofers, and a public address system. The venue plans to build a sound booth with all the latest recording technology so that it can double as a recording studio by day and venue by night. The new establishment would also like to offer live recordings after each show as well as run a live video feed so people will be able to stream the concerts all around the world in real time.

Matisyahu and Rebelution to Headline Two Day Festival September 13 &14 - Battleship Park, Wilmington, NC

The final lineup for The California Roots: The Carolina Sessions Festival has been announced today, totalling 19 bands that will all be appearing at Carolina Sessions for the first time. Headlining the two nights of of the festival will be Multi-gold RIAA certified reggae legend Matisyahu and the chart-topping all-stars Rebelution.

Speaking on playing California Roots: The Carolina Sessions for the first time, Matisyahu stated, "This festival has always been great to me on the west coast...looking forward to taking it east with them.”

Last year, California Roots made its East Coast debut with the inaugural Carolina Sessions Festival. What began as a grassroots festival in Monterey, California, has grown over the last five years into one of the most unique festivals in the country.

California Roots: The Carolina Sessions seamlessly combines music, art and environmental consciousness to create an atmosphere of unity, peace and creative flow. From the bands and artists that grace the stages, to the beautiful setting of Battleship Park overlooking downtown Wilmington, NC and the Cape Fear River, every aspect of the festival has been planned to make for the most positive experience for each and every fan.

Based on the success of last year’s Carolina Sessions festival, organizers listened to many fans suggest that more bands would make for an even better experience this time around and added a second day. With double the bands on two stages over the course of a weekend, tickets are already going quickly.

Last year the first California Roots: The Carolina Sessions festival made a strong and positive mark on the Wilmington entertainment scene, as well as on the East Coast reggae scene. Cali Roots has become a staple reggae festival on the West Coast in the last several years, and Carolina Sessions is following a similar path. Drawing over 4500 attendees, the festival was nominated for Encore Magazine’s Best of Wilmington list in the category of “Best Things To Happen in Wilmington in 2013”, and received rave reviews from the press, artists and fans alike. The essence of the festival was expertly captured in the official 17 minute mini movie, viewable at http://youtu.be/dmn93Gp80yg

BIG Daddy Something - Raleigh, NC 4/5/2014

When I heard that two of my favorite bands Big Something, and Big Daddy Love were collaborating to play a few dates together, and have a super jam- I had to go.

I left VA. for a long drive to Raleigh NC. on Friday April 4. The weather was finally nice, and Saturday nights show at The Lincoln Theatre was my cure for cabin fever. I have been following both these bands since their inception, and emphatically endorse and support them both. BIG Something's high energy and catchy lyrics always make for a ruckus show! Big Daddy Love also has a special place in my heart, their enduring songs replay over and over in my mind. My new catch phrase is "Needs More Banjo"!

The Morning After & The Royal Noise - Raleigh, NC 5/23/2014

The Morning After & The Royal Noise - Raleigh, NC 5/23/2014
It was a soul shakedown party at The Pour House Friday night with the Raleigh’s own, The Morning After, and The Royal Noise who fought Memorial Day traffic to drive all the way down from Philadelphia.

The Morning After is a cross-pollination of soul, bluegrass, jazz, rhythm and blues, with a hint of reggae, led by powerhouse front woman, Rachel Koontz.  This girl has emotion in her voice, and you can hear it when she’s wailing into the microphone.  One of the most radical things about The Morning After is that Koontz isn’t the only one in the group with a set of pipes.   Lindsey Tims on Bass, Shawn Case on the Mandolin, Hank Smith on Banjo, and the amazing fiddler, Pattie Hopkins all have mind-blowing voices.
