Cerulean City - Trio Grande

ccity.jpg
On their debut CD Trio Grande, New York’s Cerulean City waste no time in getting into one of their loose-limbed, cinematic instrumentals. The trio (Christian Smith on guitar, John Servo on bass guitar, and Lars Burggren on drums) has been gaining much recognition for their wide-open live shows, and the opening track gives a glimpse into what this band is all about. “Disco Johnson” thrives on a firey bass groove and snappy drumming that allows Smith to wander about on his guitar, diving through the rhythm with well-planned assaults. The song winds up in a pulsating disco realm. Their thought-provoking excursions remind me of another guitar trio, Raisinhill. The bands share an affinity for diverse, melodic instrumentals and jazzy changes.

The Disco Biscuits - Trance Fusion Radio Broadcast 4

discoradio4.jpg
Trance Fusion Radio Broadcast 4 is the newest installment in The Disco Biscuits' series of high-quality live releases. Done more out of need to document the band's ever-shifting sound that for conventional album purposes, TFR4 is another must-have for Biscuits fans and perhaps another mystery for those music fans that aren't familiar with the band.

The Motet - Live

motet3.jpg
The Motet wants nothing more than to make your body gyrate uncontrollably. This is apparent from the opening percussion melee that starts their third album, Live. This is not just a bunch of guys pounding on drums though. The band has actually traveled far and wide to study percussion.

Keller Williams - Laugh

After several listens, I had not put my finger on what it was about Laugh that made it so appealing. I concluded that there are no cosmic, thesaurus-supported rants residing in my noggin that can explain it. Keller Williams is just too real.

Perpetual Groove - Sweet Oblivious Antidote

PG.jpg
It would sell the Athens, GA based quartet Perpetual Groove a little short to encapsulate their music with a catch phrase. Mercifully, the ebullient group has provided listeners with a perfect verbal synopsis of their sound with the title of their debut album Sweet Oblivious Antidote. Even the album’s artwork provides a glimpse into P-Groove’s eclectic attitude. The outside is done in the style of an antique medicine bottle and below the disc tray is a grainy grocery-bag colored photo of the band, but the liner notes are decidedly futuristic. This all-inclusive vibe is evident from the first track, “Three Weeks”, which rides a genuine rock-ballad groove before launching upwards into the electronic skyline. The lyrics are desperate but hopeful. Yin and Yang prevail.

Garaj Mahal - Live Vol. 1 - 3

garaj3.jpg
Ah, futility. I have thrown my hands in the air, unable to wrap any brand of verbiage around these phenomenal live releases from the band you should know and love, Garaj Mahal. In spite of this, I’ll give it a shot.

The Beatles - The First US Visit DVD

beatlesusdvd.jpg
Visually, footage of the Beatles' latter years would seem to hold more interesting content than footage from 1964. This highly personal DVD dispels that theory. Shot from the inside by Albert and David Maysles (who also directed Gimme Shelter), this presentation is much more than a Beatles homage. It captures a pivotal juncture in American history without really trying.
Featuring special U.S. appearance by Alex Paterson of The OrbTICKETS ON SALE NOW FOR TRIUMPHANT RETURN TO BE STAGED AUG. 23-24 AT SALANSKY FARMS IN UNION DALE, PA

"The best place to watch these new hybrids in action ... Let the mutations flourish!" -- SPIN Magazine, July 2000

UNION DALE, PA -- The forces of the universe converge at beautiful Salansky Farms on Friday, August 23 and Saturday, August 24 when ultimate shape-shifting, trance-improv mind-benders The Disco Biscuits return to meld the rave and improvisational music scenes as hosts of CAMP BISCO III: SENOR BOOMBOX.

Making its triumphant encore on our planet after a one-year hiatus, the trend-setting, two-day techno jam festival is once again being produced by Walther Productions, which co-founded this cutting edge event with the band in 1999. Together, they've found Salansky Farms to be an ideal, all-new locale for Camp Bisco III. The venue is centrally located in a beautiful remote environment in the Poconos, in close proximity to Binghamton, NY and Scranton, PA and is situated within 150 miles of New York City and
Philadelphia, historically THE DISCO BISCUITS' two strongest markets.

"It's off the beaten path and just minutes from I-81, and it has plenty of space for CAMP BISCO III," says promoter Tim Walther. "The rolling, grassy hills offer natural amphitheatre-type surroundings, which are ideal for sound quality. And the panoramic view of mountains will greatly enhance the Camp Bisco experience."

THE DISCO BISCUITS, whose ever-evolving merger of electronic and improvisational music has made them a major touring attraction, will headline two sets each night. The baddest DJ's and the most innovative ensembles in today's live music have been recruited to maximize the weekend spectacular's mind-blowing quotient with the promise of laying down some history-making grooves.

Topping the list is Alex Paterson of The Orb, arguably the best down tempo electronic group ever, crossing the Atlantic for a special appearance, direct from the U.K. Rising up from London's rave clubs like a kaleidoscopic sun, thousands of colord lights have refracted off The Orb's endlessly morphing surface. Freak-flag bearers of ambient house, The Orb has turned countless midnight raves into technicolor dreams, deftly sampling morphed and merge sounds from pop songs to reggae grooves to environmental open air into audio pixilations.

And there's so much more: Canadian live House/Electro masters The New Deal; Project Logic turntable titan DJ Logic; Baltimore dark jungle powerhouse Lake Trout; Boston deep trance-jungle turntablist Seishi; Boston downtempo hip-hop outfit Moonraker; Indianapolis jam band superstars Umphrey's McGee; Southern Cali live house band Particle; transcendental didgeridoo maestro Dr. Didg; Latin-flavored Colorado pulsators The Motet, sensationalist Philly space rockers Brothers Past; Philly jazz-funk junglists The Ally (featuring the farewell performance of electric violinist Jon "Kimbo" Kim); New Jersey improv rhythm-shifters RANA; America's foremost breakbeat crusader DB; top genre-defining DJ and electronic musician Scott Hardkiss, and Chicago environMental sound therapist Paul Norman. More DJs to be announced.

CAMP BISCO III: SENOR BOOMBOX is the ultimate expression of THE DISCO BISCUITS' nightly feats of creating the most engaging blend of live and
electronic music possible, wherever and whenever they play. Festival goers will get to undergo first-hand the definition-defying state of "Bisco" that inspired the festival's name. "Bisco" is the euphoric sensation that regularly overcomes sell-out crowds at top clubs around the country.

"CAMP BISCO is what it's all about," says THE DISCO BISCUITS bass player Marc Brownstein. "It was the dream from the start -- full moon, two nights of two
sets of Biscuits, international DJs, no musical curfew. You know, all the things that you wished the other festivals had."

The band has been preparing for this weekend the past two years, vowing to make the event bigger and better than anything they have ever done in the past. In conjunction with the festival, THE DISCO BISCUITS also will be celebrating their third studio effort, the greatly anticipated SENOR BOOMBOX, scheduled for release in September on Megaforce Records. SENOR BOOMBOX showcases a new-style DISCO BISCUITS with a harder edge placed on the band's groundbreaking signature "trance-fusion" hybrid and more compact song
structure than its previous efforts.
