Lubriphonicgiles

Lubriphonic is the brainchild of guitarist Giles Corey and drummer Rick King which began as a residency at Chicago's legendary Checkerboard Lounge, where they recruited some of the best blues, funk, and rock musicians in the city for improvisational live sessions in which the kinetic energy that make a band were initiated.  The evolution from performing as sidemen for the city's most legendary blues stars such as Buddy Guy, Otis Rush and Koko Taylor into an original group came from the hunger of each musician to develop an intense and simmering sound.

That sound continues as Lubriphonic's nationwide tour threads down the West Coast this week with their CD Release Party coming up in Chicago next week. Music fans of all ages and backgrounds will find something familiar and enjoyable about Lubriphonic and with no strings attached, everyone can download a full copy of their new studio CD, The Gig Is On, here.

Colorado's music community comes together for "Fourmile Canyon Revival," a remarkable night of music to raise funds for individuals and families directly affected by the devastating Fourmile Fire near Boulder. Presented by KBCO, the benefit concert will take place on Saturday, October 9th at 1st Bank Center in Bromfield, Colorado. It will feature Colorado's own The String Cheese Incident, Big Head Todd & The Monsters, Yonder Mountain String Band, and Vince Herman & Drew Emmitt.

The members of Phish - Jon Fishman, Mike Gordon, Page McConnell and Trey Anastasio -- are also honored to take part in the event, which comes on the eve before the launch of their fall tour. Colorado was the site of Phish's first extended tour outside of the Northeast, and the band has always felt a deep connection to the community.

"It's been humbling to see the generosity and immediate response of these amazing musicians. This will be a once-in-a-lifetime event," said KBCO Program Director Scott Arbough.

All proceeds from the concert will go directly to the Boulder Mountain Fire Relief Fund. The Fund supports the local volunteer fire departments that courageously fought the recent fire and the mountain residents whose lives were directly impacted by this disaster and are in critical need of financial support.

Home Grown 9 CD

By offering a great variety of moods and musical styles, HG9 is a lengthy, stylish compilation.
Two organizations founded and operated by fans of the rock band Phish announced today that they have raised and distributed a combined $1,000,000 for charity.

The joint announcement was made by The Mimi Fishman Foundation, which raises funds through online auctions, and The Mockingbird Foundation, which publishes historical information about Phish in print and online. Both organizations are operated on an all-volunteer basis, with no salaries, paid staff, or offices.

The Mockingbird Foundation was organized in 1996, by Craig DeLucia and a dozen other fans, to raise funds for music education for children through the publication of an encyclopedic book about Phish and its music. Expanding its efforts to include the cultivation and distribution of Phish-related intellectual property more generally, the Foundation has published two editions of a 900-page book, released a double-disc tribute album, produced a variety of tour-friendly merchandise, and re-launched the Phish.net website as a comprehensive database with a dozen mobile extensions. As a result of these efforts, as well as direct donations, the Mockingbird Foundation has been able to fund 193 grants (in 42 states) totaling over $613,000.

The Mimi Fishman Foundation was organized in 1998, by Mimi Fishman (mother of Phish drummer Jon Fishman) and family friend David Shulman, to raise funds for vision-related charities through online auctions of Phish-donated memorabilia. While expanding its focus of charitable giving to include women, children, and animal-related charities, the Foundation also expanded its musical reach by receiving donated auction items from other bands, including The String Cheese Incident, Yonder Mountain String Band, and Umphrey's McGee. The Mimi Fishman Foundation has administered over 30 online auctions resulting in grants being made to 38 organizations totaling over $390,000.

Communal efforts by Phish fans reflect the history of the band itself. Phish earned commercial success during the 1990s stealthily, with little radio play and a video that primarily aired as joke fodder on Beavis and Butthead. They evolved from a rumored bar band to an idolized arena organization, benefitting from ingenuity and courage as much as from talent. Ingenuity and courage also drove fans of the same period to begin orchestrating charitable works at shows: the Green Crew collected trash from venue surroundings, the Karma Crew and Clifford Care Bears discouraged hard drug use, the Phellowship provided camaraderie for sober fans, and the Phunky Bitches provided support to female fans. While several of those nascent elements continue, the charitable ambitions of volunteer fans expanded alongside Phish's success. Groups incorporated, boards of directors were formed, and Phish fan philanthropy was born.

The Mockingbird and Mimi Fishman Foundations look forward to many more years of serving Phish fans and grantees alike. Each has already raised the funds for additional grants to be announced this fall, and each is underway with new plans to continue their success.

PURCHASE ALBUM

We are very excited to introduce our latest album A Sense of We.  Seamlessly blending several genres into a cohesive interpretation of our interconnected existence. Mixing rock, funk, reggae, metal, dance and psychedelia, "A Sense of We" will transport you to a world where technical virtuosity and danceable grooves collide, proving that once you go quack, you never go back! Features special guests Steve Molitz (Particle; Phil and Friends) and Mike Mangan (Big Organ Trio).

Relix Magazine chose the first track "At Ease" as the Editors Pick of the Month in the April-May 2010 Issue.

Musical and cultural experimentation are alive and well.  The band Quactus  makes sure of it.  On September 02 they will celebrate the release of their 2nd album, A Sense of We, the best way they know how.  They will jam on stage at Winston's with VERY SPECIAL GUEST - STEVE MOLITZ (Particle; Phil & Friends) for a night of musical and cultural experimentation.   To the band, a sense of 'we' is what we all celebrate when we come together and share in the enjoyment of music, a cultural phenomenon as primitive as it is relevant.

Quactus and their musical friends will set out to bring the sound and spirit of the album to life for 3 1/2 hours with no set breaks.  The experimentation will also be present beyond the music as performance artists of all kinds inhabit the premises to astound the attendees with visual and visceral mayhem.

This will be a multimedia event featuring extra performances by:
~HoopSoul - Meral Aydin

Have your mind blown with a night of freaks, beats, artists, and dancers!
