Perpetual Groove

Georgia jam veterans Perpetual Groove make a triumphant return on Harmonized Records with their first new studio album in 12 years, offering up an ambitious and surprising self-titled reinvention.

Shakori Hills Grassroots Festival of Music & Dance

One of the most bucolic settings to see music in the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill area is at The Shakori Hills Grassroots Festival of Music & Dance, which has been happening every spring and fall, on a 75-acre farm in Pittsboro, NC, since 2003.

The festival has on-site camping, food and craft vending, and is very family-friendly. There are lots of activities designed for children, the grounds are very clean and forested, and it's generally a much more relaxing and peaceful experience than larger festivals. It's also held at the best time of the year, before the summer heat sets in, whereas the larger festivals always seem to pick the hottest week in July, on land with not a tree in sight, which never makes sense to me.

Charlie Hunter & Lucy Woodward in Carrboro, NC 4/10/19

Charlie Hunter & Lucy Woodward launched their new tour with a joyous show stocked with smoky jazz, retro pop, cool blues and laid-back funk

The vivacious virtuoso evolved from his customary 7- and 8-string guitars to employ a special 6-string made in NC which still enabled his stunning technique playing chunky rhythms, eclectic solos and funky bass all at once.

Widespread Panic takes over Durham

Widespread Panic, Durham Performing Arts Center
With three full shows each night and some great pre & post parties - Durham was a real good time!

Widespread Panic performed at Durham Performing Arts Center (DPAC) March 29-31.  Our team was on hand on 3/31 to capture some photos and vibes to share with you.  The shows had quickly sold out and anticipation was high for the three night stand.  With 2000+ fans on hand for an entire weekend, we decided some partying was in order!

Check out the video for the first single "Upswing" from the album Perpetual Groove.

On May 17th, Harmonized Records will release Perpetual Groove, PGroove's first new album since 2009!  In addition to a North American tour in support of the LP, the band is resurrecting its popular Talking in Place message board on their revamped website, PGroove.net. The first single, "Upswing," was released today along with an accompanying video, a new venture for the veteran outfit.

After keeping fans waiting for nearly a decade, Perpetual Groove is back with a vengeance and a juggernaut of a new album. From the chest-pounding opening notes, there's a familiar, yet fully-realized sound that fans will find completely new and exciting. The entire album can be summed up in the first verse of Upswing, "No more norms which to rely on", showcasing a band that's at the top of their game and ready to take their message to the masses

In the tumultuous decade that followed the release of their last full-length album (including a two year performance hiatus), Perpetual Groove recruited producers Jason Kingsland and Tim Friesen to help redefine and fully realize the sound for their much anticipated new album.

Hunkering down for all of 2018 in recording studios, The Fidelitorium in Kernersville, NC and Studio MG in Roswell, GA, the band decided to forego the usual road test for new material. The Athens-based collective emerged this year with seven songs that represent all that life brings. The inimitable lyrical style of Brock Butler and Adam Perry focuses on loss, redemption, and hope which is balanced with a sonically cerebral and emotional undertow.

Lyricist and guitarist Brock Butler offers, "Each album we've made over the years offers a look into the moments of their respective eras. In comparison to our previous albums, this one was created over a longer period of time. In my experience, the difference of how I hear or feel a particular song today, versus when I revisit it sometime later, can be a considerable one. I feel we've sonically and lyrically captured this feeling. Our lyrics tell the stories of our lives--the joys and the sorrows, the lives and the deaths, the creations and the losses that have made us Perpetual Groove are reflected in each of these songs.  In each one, the music supports the lyrics and helps to tell the stories we wanted to share with each of you."

Lyricist and bassist Adam Perry adds, "After the breakup of PGroove, I was delighted that we reunited.  This album is fresh, exciting and truly reflects who we are now and is the platform for our future growth as a band."

Perpetual Groove caught everyone by surprise in 2015 when they returned to the stage after a two-year hiatus. The band performed eight weekends that year, over multi-night runs, to sold-out shows in some of their favorite cities across the country, thus ringing in a new chapter and inspiring a new album. The four members of PGroove worked tirelessly with producers Kingsland and Friesen to refocus their energy and take the time to meticulously craft music that stays true to their collective vision. This is a band that is fully realized and ready to bring their new sound, storytelling, and live experience to the masses.

The Mantras - Raleigh, NC 02.23.2019

Light The Beacons- The Mantras Ignite Raleigh

The night was cold, damp, and dreary. Yes, the mid February eve was by most standards unpleasant and uninviting, save for one illuminating factor sure to light up the city of oaks; The Mantras had pulled their wagon of sound into town. The five piece bomb squad delivered two sets at the Pour House that scorched the stage of the familiar Raleigh haunt, leaving attendees grateful to be alive, enraptured in captivation.

JJ Grey and Mofro with Cris Jacobs in Raleigh 02.27.2019

In addition to all tickets being sold out in advance for Wednesday night’s show in the Capital City, it was also a “Souled Out” show much to the delight of the venue's patrons

As the hands on the clock stage left at the Lincoln Theatre struck eight, Cris Jacobs casually strapped on his Fender Telecaster and took his place on stage accompanied by his three-piece band. "Jack The Whistle And The Hammer", from his debut album Dust To Gold (2016), ignited the evening and set the tone for what would be a night of passionate, blues infused, and soul-tinged rock and roll.
