Crosby, Stills & Nash to cap off spectacular musical line-up at 14th Annual Gathering of The Vibes Festival 2009, July 23-26

vibes2008Seaside-overview2Four-day event to showcase musical legends, support charitable causes and Celebrate 40th Anniversary of Woodstock.

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (April 8, 2009):  Crosby, Stills & Nash (CSN) will be among several extraordinary musical artists to perform at the 14th Annual Gathering of the Vibes, July 23-26, 2009, at Seaside Park, Bridgeport, Connecticut.  In celebration of the 40th Anniversary of the Woodstock Music and Arts Festival, CSN will be joined by fellow Woodstock participants Bob Weir of the Grateful Dead, Levon Helm, former drummer and vocalist for The Band, and activist Wavy Gravy, who will serve as master of ceremonies.

CSN, whose first gig together was in 1969 at Woodstock, will highlight a very special Sunday Family Day at the Vibes.  The final day of this year's four-day event also features performances from the world-famous Harlem Gospel Choir, progressive reggae artists John Brown's Body, neoclassic rockers Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, and legendary blues guitarist Buddy Guy.  To encourage families to make an event of the day, kids 15 and under will be admitted FREE with their parents on Sunday, July 26.

"This is a great opportunity for families to get out and some spend quality time with each other in an absolutely beautiful environment," said Ken Hays, executive director of Gathering of the Vibes.  "Last year, we had over 1,200 attendees under the age of 13 join us for an incredible weekend on the shores of Long Island Sound.  This is a chance for parents to share some of the music that makes up the soundtrack of their lives with the next generation."

The Vibes 2009 Main Stage line-up includes: Crosby, Stills & Nash, The Grateful Dead's Bob Weir & RatDog, five-time Grammy award winner Buddy Guy, funk legend George Clinton, Boston's indie-rockers State Radio and Guster, longtime Vibes favorite moe., legendary drummer Levon Helm, the Harlem Gospel Choir and many, many more!

* Additional artists to be confirmed.

Gathering of the Vibes 2009 marks the fifth time Seaside Park has hosted the annual music, arts and camping festival; the event is in the second year of its current five-year agreement with the City of Bridgeport. The all-ages, family-friendly festival drew 20,000 revelers per day to the 370-acre venue last year. The event caters to both weekend campers and single-day guests, all of whom have access to the park's shaded groves, manicured fields and more than a mile of Long Island Sound beachfront.

quactus2The Goat Head Saloon is the spot for live music in the Phoenix area. A chill atmosphere and the insight to book great bands, such as Quactus, is the lifeblood of a music scene here in the valley. That being said, I would like to thank the members of Quactus for a delicious April Fool's day show.

TR3 featuring Tim Reynolds - Radiance CD

TR3, with legendary guitarist and traveling gypsy Tim Reynolds leading the way, displays versatility and adaptability in a scintillating collection of songs called “Radiance.”

Dumpstafunk - 03.31.09 - The Pour House, Raleigh NC

A night of “no more lingering unnecessariness”

Either I don’t know the Tuesday night crowd or I don’t know the Dumpstaphunk crowd because I didn’t recognize hardly anyone at The Pour House Tuesday night. Until later that is. I guess I know the late night crowd. Apparently the show almost didn’t happen due to some transmission trouble with the van. They pulled up and loaded in right about the time the doors were supposed to open. Luckily it takes more than car trouble to stop the funk. It was decent sized crowd for a Tuesday night but I expected more with the B’roo & JazzFest performances and the WSP opening spot.

For the first time ever, legendary guitarist Jimmy Herring is hitting the road under his own name, with a hand-picked ensemble of all-star musicians in support. Pioneering a daring hybrid which crosses rock energy with the sophistication and improvisational fire of jazz, Herring's dynamic, exploratory guitar playing has been a key component of such renowned groups as the Aquarium Rescue Unit, Jazz is Dead, Project Z, and, most recently, Widespread Panic - with whom Herring plays lead guitar to this day. Much esteemed by his fellow musicians, Herring has also been called upon for stints with Phil Lesh and Friends, the Allman Brothers, and the Dead.

2009 marks the formation of the Jimmy Herring Band, featuring Herring on guitar, drummer extraordinaire Jeff Sipe (Aquarium Rescue Unit, Jazz is Dead, Shawn Lane), prolific jazz maverick Greg Osby on saxophone, multifaceted keyboardist Scott Kinsey (Tribal Tech), and musical chameleon Oteil Burbridge (spring tour only) on bass (Allman Brothers, Aquarium Rescue Unit).

The Summer Tour will feature world renowned bassist Matthew Garrison  (John McLaughlin, Herbie Hancock, Pat Metheny).

jimmy herringThe Jimmy Herring Band will be performing a wide range of material, including compositions from Herring's long-awaited and much-acclaimed 2008 solo debut "Lifeboat."  In addition, there will be some cover tunes from various influential records from the 60's and 70's- and select favorites from the catalogues of the individual band members. Herring is understandably excited about the prospect of performing this music with this lineup over an extended period of time. "It's a shot of adrenaline to get to play with musicians who are pushing the envelope and breaking down the walls that exist between genres of music. Each of these musicians inspires with every note they play."

"Lifeboat" is the debut solo album from Jimmy Herring released on Abstract Logix Music.
