SolFunkRoottriofireshot

Sol: vocals, guitar
King George: drums, vocals
Jake D: bass

Sol is a fierce guitarist and soulful singer who has toured the world with many roots, funk, and blues legends. Sol and his band Funk Root create a unique blend of Southern fried rock, blues, reggae, and way back yonder funk, all delivered with deep soul, performing tasty original tunes and bluesy, greasy jams. Sol & Funk Root have toured across the east coast U.S. at many premier festivals and venues and have been on bills with Jon Cleary, Soulive, The Wood Brothers, Robert Randolph, Jackie Greene, and more.

Sol & Funk Root's latest CD release "Freedom" includes Sol on guitar and vocals with band members drummer King George (Corey Harris, Jah Works), bassist Jake D, and saxophonist Tim Smith (Hobex, Squirrel Nut Zippers, Countdown Quartet), and special appearances by members of reggae jam groups the Seed, and the Alliens.

"Freedom displays the social consciousness that is at the heart of much roots music"- HGMN

"This innovative and creative work truly creates a powerful musical experience that will, in the words of the band, "melt your mind." As the latter half of the name of the band's name alludes, be sure to stock-up on your MJ, sit back and realize the musical experience."
- Will Hackett, The Athens Blur Magazine

"They know exactly who they are and that is exactly what they do. And exactly why this CD gets an A+ review from me. It is not bias, it is what it is; JazzChronic came into their own through "Share the Wealth." What more could you ask for than a first album to, not only define who they are, but show how far you have come."
- Whitney Conner, The Voice

"Well-balanced grooves with a professional sound, subtle without being too complicated. Suited as background tunes and clubbing as well. Our top tracks: Openly Closed, Soul True and Spank your Mom. Duration: 66.04 (12 tracks) Genre: Jazz | Fusion Labeled: Recommended "

Legendary guitarist Jimmy Herring will be hitting the road under his own name, with a hand-picked ensemble of all-star musicians in support.

JHB2010webposter Pioneering a daring hybrid which crosses rock energy with the sophistication and improvisational fire of jazz, Herring's dynamic, exploratory guitar playing has been a key component of such renowned groups as the Aquarium Rescue Unit, Jazz is Dead, Project Z, and, most recently, Widespread Panic - with whom Herring plays lead guitar to this day. Much esteemed by his fellow musicians, Herring has also been called upon for stints with Phil Lesh and Friends, the Allman Brothers, and the Dead.

2010 marks the formation of the current rendition of The Jimmy Herring Band, featuring Herring on guitar, drummer extraordinaire Jeff Sipe (Aquarium Rescue Unit, Jazz is Dead, Shawn Lane), prolific keyboardist Matt Slocum (Susan Tedeschi, Derek Trucks), and the phenomenal Neal Fountain on bass (Col Bruce Hampton, Alex Machacek).

"I love all these guys and feel very comfortable playing with them.  They're all members of an extended family of musicians that stem from the world of Colonel Bruce Hampton. We joke all the time about how there are two kinds of musicians, those who have played with Bruce Hampton, and those who have not!  These three guys really have no musical boundaries.  As different as we all are, what we have in common is that we don't make any distinction between genres of music.  To us music is music and that philosophy is one of the things we learned from Bruce.

The Jimmy Herring Band will be performing a wide range of material, including compositions from Herring's long-awaited and much-acclaimed 2008 solo debut "Lifeboat."

"The music for the upcoming tour will be a mixed bag.  Some stuff from the album and some covers I have always wanted to play.  Hopefully there will be enough freedom for everyone to relax and have equal creative input.  It's important to me to have fairly simple music that will allow for us to reinterpret it on a nightly basis.  Another thing I learned from Bruce Hampton is, the simpler the music, the easier it is to reinterpret it each time you play it."

Herring who just toured with Drummer Lenny White (Miles Davis, Return To Forever) will be one of the headliners at the New Universe Music Festival in Raleigh, North Carolina on November 20-21 as well as performing there with The Lenny White Group and  paying a tribute to guitar icon John McLaughlin with whom he co bills the House of Blues concert in Boston on November 16th.

Telepath live in Asheville 10/14

Performing with Lynx and Beats Antique at the Orange Peel.

By Keaton Rodland

telSometimes when a band plays next-to-last, the time allotted to them seems but a blink of an eye. This was not the case for Telepath and their fulfilling set of tunes. How much bass and synth can a crowd handle? The crowd in Asheville at the Orange Peel on October 14th couldn't get enough of the deep vibrations emanating throughout the building.

They will also collect toys for underprivileged youth.

As the holidays approach and the spirit of giving swells, Boulder, Colorado-based national nonprofit Conscious Alliance announces the 7th Annual Holiday Meal Drive this Thanksgiving Season, taking place November 18-24, 2010. Conscious Alliance has been hosting food drives at concerts and sporting events since 2002, collecting and distributing nearly 1,000,000 pounds of food to impoverished Native American Reservations.

Last year, Conscious Alliance's Holiday Meal Drive collected enough food to distribute over 1,500 holiday meal boxes to Native American households at Lame Deer Reservation in Montana, Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota, and Houma Reservation in Louisiana. This holiday season, Conscious Alliance hopes to feed more than 10,000 families through donations and it's easy to help. A donation of $15 or more will provide dinner for a family this holiday season and only $30 or more will feed an individual for an entire week. For more information or to make a donation, visit www.consciousalliance.org/donate.

Conscious Alliance concentrates much of their efforts on Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota, where the average median income is under $3,000. Many families in this region struggle to provide food and heat for their households. Native American youth are particularly affected by the poverty in Pine Ridge, where one-fourth of the population is under the age of eighteen. Not forgetting the children in these impoverished families, Conscious Alliance will host a toy drive too - this year at the November 7, 2010 Yo Gabba Gabba! Live! performance at Broomfield, Colorado's 1STBANK Center.

All toys collected at Kia Motors Presents Yo Gabba Gabba! Live!: There's A Party In My City! will benefit the youth of this area and be distributed during the holiday season. It is recommended all donations at Yo Gabba Gabba! Live! are a new stuffed animal valued at $10 or more.

GREEN HIT listens to the music that exists naturally around them and becomes a funnel for the modern world as they translate their musical vision into song form. Using an original blend of instruments and effects they are able to capture tones and colors not typically found in popular music.

GREEN HIT was formed in 2005. Since that time, the ingredients have changed and the pot has been simmering! The efforts of this collaboration have produced something truly unique, challenging, and tasteful.

GREEN HIT's music appeals to a wide spectrum of people. With influences ranging from Afrobeat to Electronica, and from Funk to Post-rock, GREEN HIT won't sing you songs. Instead of telling the listener what to think, they allow the mood and feel of the music to communicate meaning. When GREEN HIT shows up at your local music venue, you can expect a full-on production, complete with intense intelligent lighting. The band incorporates multiple synthesizers, sequencers, tones, and colors that you won't hear on the radio, into every show.

"Purpose." is presented to you in all honesty. It is a live album which has been polished.

"live" - meaning all the players played simultaneously in the same room to record all of the music. There were no over-dubs, no click-tracks, and no safety net.

"polished" - meaning the sound was mixed and mastered in a traditional manner.

The whole of the album was recorded in three sessions during February and March of 2010. These sessions were held at 3rd Floor Recording, located at the Old Sacred Heart Hospital building, in Pensacola, FL., by Sean Peterson. All songs were written, arranged, and produced by members of Green Hit, and all songs are copyrighted by Green Hit.

It has been rumoured that the Old Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola is haunted. During the recording sessions several anomalous occurrences met with the band. Some of sounds on the album were donated by multiple Lo-Fi radio stations via Chase's amp. The content of these offerings brings into question whether the occurrences were by chance or due to intervention.
