Les Racquet - Be Water My Friend CD

Les Racquet - Be Water My Friend CD
Brooklyn-based Les Racquet’s newly released EP is an exciting introduction to this power trio, a group that exists in a realm somewhere outside the limits of most power trios that likely come to mind.
Cornmeal Says Goodbye to Kris and John Paul Nowak

corn

Dear Fans,

It is with a heavy heart that we are announcing the departure of 2 of our longtime bandmates. For both personal and professional reasons, Kris and JP Nowak have decided to leave the band after 8 years together. We wish them both the best and utmost success in their future endeavors. We will finish out the current dates we have on the books with them and are currently looking for their full time replacements. In the meantime keep your eyes open for some possible special guest appearances. We thank Kris and JP for their many years of hard work, dedication, and tremendous musical contributions. We also thank you, our fans, for your continued support!

Sincerely,

Cornmeal

A letter from the Nowak Brothers

To Our Fans:

We are writing to announce that we are leaving Cornmeal, our musical home for the last 8 years together. We leave having accomplished one of our lives' shared missions, namely, to help make the world a better place by sharing our musical talents with each of you. Words cannot describe how much we appreciate your long and continued support.

As I'm sure many of you can imagine, the road we've been navigating through the wilderness of the traveling music business is an incredibly difficult one in many different ways. It is difficult physically, mentally, spiritually, emotionally, and financially. While it is true that we have benefitted greatly from our time in Cornmeal, it hasn't been without struggle. For these reasons we have decided to forge a new path in our lives.

We offer our thanks to our bandmates, crew members, and managers. What we've accomplished together cannot be understated, and we look forward to celebrating this legacy with them and you, our fans, in the shows we have remaining.

Sincerely,

Kris and JP Nowak

Blending Americana, Soul, Jazz, Funk and Rock

Deluge5932

Daniel Serrif - guitar, vocals

Brandon Knox - harmonica, vocals

Chris Lord - guitar, vocals

Jeremy Meritt - drums

George Westberry - bass, vocals

The Deluge is a whirling dervish of a band which possesses a kinetic energy in their live show that will leave audiences swooning long afterwards. Blending Americana, Soul, Jazz, Funk and Rock; the Deluge's unique sound captures the essence of many musical styles.

Formed in 2008, this dynamic and musically diverse group features Brandon Knox on harmonica and vocals, Chris Lord on guitar, George Westberry on bass and vocals, Daniel Serriff on guitar and vocals and Jeremy Merritt on drums.

The Deluge's debut record, Cryin' on the Vine, features "Strange World'...which won best R&B song of 2010 from the international John Lennon Songwriting Contest.

Their second release, Elephant Graveyard, features the talents of Grammy Award Winner Kofi Burbridge (Tedeschi/Trucks Band) and showcases the group's vast musical range, capturing moments of spinster story telling to raw and unfettered revelry.

The Deluge has shared the stage with many of the top artists in music over the past decade, including Sam Bush, Kofi and Otiel Burbridge, Artimus Pyle and the Carter Brothers.

Elephant Graveyard is a freewheeling yarn with wildly expressive musical accompaniment. The second release from the Deluge is a departure from their first in so much as ascetic, but the spirit of storytelling is very evident on Graveyard. The record begins with the Otis Redding inspired Honest Man and moves seamlessly into the murder ballad Rosy. Each track differs vastly from the last and the inclusion of the Tom Scott cover, So White, is cleverly translated by the band's new rhythm section in the dynamic duo of Jeremy Merritt (drums) and George Westberry (bass). New guitarist, Daniel Serrif, displays his mastery of motivic development in his work on Let's Make Medicine, which begins with cerebral legato bends before it transforms into a downright raunchy rock and roll guitar solo. Chris Lord offers his melodic voicing throughout the entire record and is on full display on the track, Her Pride. Brandon Knox's voice also displays fluidity from liltingly sweet to shouting and screaming. The addition of Kofi Burbridge (ARU, Tedeschi Trucks Band) adds another eccentric voice to an already elaborate tapestry. All told, Elephant Graveyard is a diverse record that will keep the listener's head on a swivel.

floydyoga

The Floyd YOjam is a 3 day music festival with 3 full days of music and 3 full days of yoga classes and workshops in the magical Floyd County, Virginia. Expect a well rounded festival experience with 17 bands on 2 stages, 2 large yoga tents, local beer, wine & healthy eats, curated vendor village, holistic healing oasis, performance & interactive arts, meditation sanctuary, kid’s area, onsite car camping, inspirational speakers, herb workshops, firewalking, slacklining, hoop park, community hangout tent, shaded creekside, aerial dancers, fire dancers, and a mobile solar power stage art car.

And if you’ve not heard of Floyd before, you’re in for a treat. This is a place that must be experienced to be believed. The Universe shines bright here and has attracted an amazing community of inspirational people to the area. The energy will surround you. The YOjam is inspired by all of this, you will be inspired. We, the four founders of Floyd Yoga Jam, felt called to create this event and share the magic. We seek to entertain and uplift each individual; awakening positive change within, leading to more positive change in the world.

Join us in creating a temporary community of beautiful like-minded people and feel the energy of what is possible within yourself and beyond. The yoga classes are open to all levels. True to the yogic philosophy, you come to the mat as you are. There should be no worry about whether or not you’re good enough, because its all about you. This is a chance to experience new styles & new teachers. Perhaps a chance to go deeper then you ever have before.

We have drawn our inspiration from all the great festivals that have come before us. It would be impossible to list them all, but we’d like to give a shout out to Wanderlust, FloydFest, Magfest, and Burning Man. Floyd Yoga Jam will be a combination of these vibes, along with our own unique additions to the festival experience.

The festival site, Burnette Farm, will win your heart with its gentle rolling meadows, large shade trees, and the creek waters that flow throughout. There’s  plenty of room for participants to car or primitive camp onsite, creating a lively neighborhood atmosphere for the weekend.

Our mission is to nourish your highest potential, create vibrant connections, and enliven the community.

The founders of Floyd Yoga Jam are firmly committed to the community and supporting local initiatives in both the creative and environmental sectors. In addition to working with local non-profits on a variety of different projects, we will also be setting up a micro loan program of our own, with the goal of helping fund startup creative ventures within our community.

Thoughtful songs. Catchy melodies. Jazz-oriented Indie Rock.

LesRacquetPokerHiRes

Les Racquet (less rack-it)

Kenny Murphy (Bass,Vox)

Daniel Malone (Drums, Vox)

Patrick Carroll (Guitar, Lead Vox)

Les Racquet is a jazz-oriented indie rock trio touring nationally in support of their most recent EP, “Be Water My Friend”, recorded this past January at Drift Design Studios in Boston, Massachusetts. Les Racquet, made up of Kenny Murphy, Patrick Carroll, and Daniel Malone, hails from Brooklyn,NY, home to many great national and emerging bands but none who so artfully blend genres not limited by sound, age, or space. Mike Levine at The Deli describes the band as one that “moves from punk to Afrobeat to acid jazz in equal turns, but never pulls away from the meat and potatoes required of any ambitious young group”. We hope you agree.

“Talent-wise all three members impressed, but what was most impressive was the melding of seemingly divergent sounds. The bass, drums and guitar could simultaneously veer off on a tangent without losing the greater whole. The gorgeous three-part  harmonies were the melodic highlight of the songs. Then they also weren’t afraid to throw an adventurous instrumental into the mix.” - Eli of Tympanogram

“The young group has been around for a short while, but it’s the sort of band that can build a reputation by word of mouth [and] on the strength of its shows” Roman of The Rochester City Paper

In April, 2012 the band began working with Young Giant, formerly Collegiate Records, an independent record label and booking agency operating nationally with divisions in Boston, Pittsburgh, Nashville, and Los Angeles.

Be Water My Friend (2012)

Inspired by an interview with Kung Fu legend Bruce Li, the release Be Water My Friend indulges the listener at every turn with anecdote and metaphor, about the philosophy behind `being water” and the gentle reminder that life is beautiful. The CD was recorded at Drift Design Studios in Boston, MA in the winter of 2011, as the band was coming through during the first leg of their tour. Booked for only a weekend the trio made the most of their time, recording their favorite songs and a subsequent promotional video which were both released in early 2012. This recording is the first time that all three voices

are a prominent melody. Also, the recording is a representation of a time when the band was learning how to live together on the road, how to share responsibility and maximize the efficiency it takes to be both musicians and promoters. The trio shows ultimate trust in one another as they spin intricate harmonies and solos amidst beautiful melodies and deep groves.

Guardian Angel Jam is an annual event that hosts some of the best up & coming bands in the region. It's a festival about coming together with friends and fellow musicians to help support a common cause, to share their love and support for a friend and passionate music fan, Glen Allister.

Glen Allistar was diagnosed with Ewings Sarcoma at the age of 10. As he was being treated at the Children's Hospital of the Kings Daughters in Norfolk, VA he went into remission, but would lose his right leg below the knee. At the age of 16 they discovered another tumor and he relapsed in 2007, undergoing 18 months of rigorous Chemo, 6 weeks (full lung) radiation for 3 bone tumors. Today Glen's treatments are all done and he still has 2 bone tumors.

If you live in the area like I do you can't help but feel a little pride for all the great bands that were eager to come together for this special event. For Glen and everyone involved, it's just a wonderful thing to be a part of.  Much respect.

The Camp Barefoot music and arts festival will begin on Thursday, August 23 and will continue through Sunday in Bartow, West Virginia. With a solid lineup that includes such acts as Keller Williams, Ghostland Observatory, Karl Denson's Tiny Universe, Ivan Neville's Dumpstaphunk, Zoogma, The Motet, Rubblebucket, Pimps of Joytime, Strange Arrangement, Ultra Violet Hippopotamus, Kyle Hollingsworth Band, The Mantras, Big Daddy Love, Zach Deputy, Archnemesis, Brother's Past and many more, this looks to be their biggest year yet.

For those of you that have never been to Camp Barefoot since its move to Bartow, West Virginia, the site is absolutely gorgeous, its beauty and layout only rivaled by Suwannee Music Park down in Live Oak, Florida. And for all you dog lovers out there, dogs are welcome but must be leashed at all times. Just remember to clean up after your pet...and yourselves.  Expect a great family atmosphere, good vibes and some fantastic entertainment.

camp2

For me personally, the highlights will be Rubblebucket, Ghostland Observatory, Strange Arrangement, Big Daddy Love, Ultraviolet Hippo, Zoogma, The Motet, Brothers Past, Pimps of Joytime, Former Champions and Silo Effect. I'm sure many of you have had the opportunity to see Ghostland Observatory & their incredible light show before. It's simply off the hook. And I don't think anyone in the lineup has been making waves like Rubblebucket has been lately. A band I once considered extremely underrated has finally been getting the recognition that they deserve. If you haven't seen these guys yet then under no circumstances should you miss their set. I've actually traveled as far as San Diego to see them perform. And any opportunity to see the Motet is a good opportunity.

4-Day General Admission is $170. Kids 12 & under are "Free" with paid
