Late Night Shows include Saskia Laroo (from Amsterdam, The Netherlands) backed by The Motet on Saturday... and a double bill with WhiteWater Ramble and TAARKA featuring ThaMuseMeant's Nathan Moore on Sunday. Click HER! E for the Festival Schedule and/or HERE for Band Biographies.

2) Three Full Days & Extended Hours - NedFest will again be a three-day festival!! That's right... we will run from 2:00 PM until 10:30 PM on Friday, August 22nd; from 10:00 AM until 10:30 PM on Saturday, August 23rd; and from 10:00 AM until 8:30 PM on Sunday, August 24th. Additionally, there will be special late-night shows happening each night at the Black Forest Restaurant in Town. This totals roughly 40 hours of live music and fun! For the price... what a deal!!

3) Camping - For a low price NedFest offers Family Camping in Chipeta Park, quite close to the festival grounds, for anyone willing to rough it over the weekend. Additionally, there are many places to camp in the nearby wilderness area that are unaffiliated with the Festival if you are willing to rough-it... many of which are 100% FREE.

4) MicroBrew Festival - We will again be hosting a number of microbreweries at the Festival including Stone Brewing Company, Oskar Blues, Lefthand Brewing Company, Spaten Brewery, Ska Brewing and Avery Brewing Company, all bringing amazing selections of beers... plus our good friends at Redstone Meadery bringing their award winning honeywine.

5) Inexpensive Advance Tickets - Advanced 3-Day Weekend Passes are just $ 100.00, while Advance 2-Day Passes (Sat & Sun) cost only $ 75.00. Friday Tickets are just $ 25.00 each and Saturday Only and Sunday Only Tickets both are $ 40.00 each. Plus we've recently set up our very own online Ticketing Service so as to avoid having high Service Charges tacked on for our customers. Please click HERE for Ticketing info.

6) Kids 12 & under enter the Festival for FREE with a paying adult. Additionally, there is a children's play area with a Moonbounce and other activities, some of which are free and some for only a very small charge. NedFest is an extremely family-friendly event!

7) Free Parking - Yes, it's true that parking is FREE in designated areas, but just keep in mind that parking in small-town Ned is limited, so please carpool if you can. You can also ride the bus up from Boulder. The RTD's first stop in Nederland is a very short walk (about one block) to the NedFest Box Office.

8) Free Water - Paying for water at Festivals and concerts sucks! We'll hydrate and re-hydrate you for free, compliments of our friends at Indian Peaks Springwater.

9) Great Food and lots of local Arts & Crafts - There is still Vending space available, so if you are interested in VENDING, please click HERE.

10) The Sound - Our production company again this year is Sweetwave Audio. They will be bringing their Meyer line array speakers and Soundcraft mixing boards. You may recall hearing the amazing Meyer sound if you saw any of the last several hundred Grateful Dead shows. Meyer speakers are simply the best concert speakers ever made, and we are excited that Sweetwave will be with us again to maintain our extreme level of sound quality. The line array technology helps put the sound exactly where we want it: Not too loud in front and not too quiet in back... a fantastic listening experience for all.

11) A really cool, Professional Stage - The stage we have used the past few years has been great! No more "wedding tent" like in our early years (ha ha), so it will look great from wherever you are in the Festival grounds. This stage also helps improve our sound. Pretty exciting stuff!

12) Nederland, Colorado is beautiful - Located just 17 miles west (3,000 ft. above) of Boulder, the Festival's waterfront location has amazing views of the Rocky Mountains and the Continental Divide. The town has a long musical history dating back to the late 60's and early 70's... back in the day when Stephen Stills (allegedly) used to get thrown thru the front window of the Pioneer Inn. Members of String Cheese Incident, Yonder Mountain String Band, Leftover Salmon, The Motet and many other fantastic bands currently call Nederland their home. It's a great little community!

13) You'll be supporting several good causes - Multiple non-profit corporations such as Biodiversity Conservation Alliance and KGNU will be on hand to help keep you informed about things relevant to our local and World community.

14) NedFest is an independent, grassroots, non-corporate, homegrown event organized and staffed by kind, cool, down-to-earth mountain folk who know how to have a good time.

15) Its one heck of a party!!!

In June, prog-rock powerhouse Umphrey's McGee will release Jimmy Stewart 2007 - an ambitious double-live album comprised of some of the band's most inspired improvisations, sequenced into two seamless 70-minute "mixtapes." Several times each performance Umphrey's McGee delves into the "Jimmy Stewart" creation process. They aim to generate melody-rich, spontaneous compositions, utilizing a Zappa-inspired language of body gestures and hand-signals which allow the band to create structure on-the-fly.

As Umphrey's McGee's sound continues to evolve, each live performance is increasingly a showcase for their "Jimmy Stewart" approach to progressive improvisation, which they utilize as a breeding ground for new material. Fan favorites "In the Kitchen", "Intentions Clear", "Bridgeless", and many more have come from such sessions.  In fact, the newest original to the Umphrey's McGee live repertoire is "Waist Down", a song with firm roots in the Jimmy Stewart 2007 track  "Eat - 2.17.07 - San Francisco".CoverJS2007_128

Umphrey's is a band always on the cusp of fresh technology and music distribution, and the trendsetting Umphrey's McGee Podcast serves up two 75-minute sets of live UM each month to its 20,000 subscribers. On June 10th, the Podcast offered it's 66th broadcast, a Jimmy Stewart 2007 companion piece of an extra CD's worth of material from the cutting room.  That past weekend weekend, a limited pressing of 2,000 Jimmy Stewart 2007 CDs were available at the Bonnaroo Music Festival, with remaining copies to be distributed at shows and though the band's online store.  Beginning June 17, the record is available digitally via iTunes and UMLive.net.

Also this month, Umphrey's McGee debut a digital-only live series called CompendiUM.  The first ten releases in this iTunes series are comprised of the band's favorite ten shows of 2007, showcasing the incredibly diverse range of the Umphrey's McGee live experience.

We're back from Bonnaroo and making June even hotter with new music!
Not only do we have a ton of amazing stuff coming up next week (all of which is available for pre-order), but we've got a quartet of must-have discs from Charlie Wheeler Band, Stanley Maxwell, The Heavy, and The Herbaliser. Check out the latest news at The Dancing Tree!

Robert Walter - Cure All CD

The news on Cure All is how different it is from the Stanton Moore Trio, which prominently features soul-jazz organ player Robert Walter as well.
Out Of The Water, Zach Deputy's much anticipated studio album, will be released on June 24th.

After years of selling and giving away thousands live recordings, Zach Deputy and his musical partner Paul Kearns are excited to share this studio recording with fans.

"At times it seemed like it would never come out," said Zach Deputy. "I was touring non-stop and couldn't find more than a day in a row to record in Atlanta." This album represents one of the many musical facets of Zach Deputy. Fans know that Zach and Paul perform as a duo, with Zach creating next generation live looping, accompanied by Kearns on percussion, to create a full band sound. Out Of The Water, on the other hand, features a full compliment of some of the South's top musicians, including Mose Davis on Hammond B-3 organ (The Isley Brothers, Funkedelic, David Ruffin, etc.), bassist Sam Sims (Maxwell, Michael Jackson, kd Lang,Zach etc.) and drummer Sonny Emory (Earth Wind & Fire, Steely Dan, B-52s, etc.). Despite the accomplished sidemen available to him, Zach Deputy still plays all of the instruments on some tracks, and is credited with vocals, acoustic, electric, slide and treated guitars, bass, keyboards, synths, drums, percussion and marimba on the recording, in addition to writing all of the words and music. He also lent a hand in the production, from engineering to mixing, and is the co-producer of the album.

Moving seamlessly from sultry R&B to soulful funk to love ballads, Out Of The Water offers 12 tracks that capture Zach Deputy's diverse musical and cultural influences. A South Carolina native, Deputy's family tree has Puerto Rican and Cruzan roots. Thus, the tropical sounds of Calypso and dancehall rhythms coexist happily with hip hop and rock beats, all forming a foundation for the dexterous guitar work and multiple octave vocal stylings of this talented young artist. Often at a loss for describing his own music, Zach Deputy addresses his influences in his comical way: "I was inspired by Bobby McFerrin and James Brown, but blown away by Ray Charles. I like to think of my music as the illegitimate bastard child of these three greats, raised by Michael Jackson in a beachside shack on St. Croix." Unheard in these references is Deputy's love of old school conscious hip hop, but this can be found live and on the record, as Zach can flow with the best of them, improvising smooth lyrical gymnastics as easily as he jams on his instrument.

Out Of The Water will be available online at iTunes, Rhapsody, eMusic, Napster, GrooveMobile and Groupy Tunes in time for the official release date. Out Of The Water will also be available at select retailers through the Homegrown Music Network's (HGMN) distribution service. Of course, the best place to buy it is at a show. Zach Deputy will be touring non-stop in support of the new release, from the Mississippi to the Atlantic, Miami to Minneapolis to Montreal and all stops in between. Pre-orders are available through zachdeputy.com, cdfreedom.com and homegrownmusic.net. For more info. a complete tour schedule and much more, visit www.zachdeputy.com.
In support of his upcoming solo album, The Green Sparrow, Mike Gordon will embark on a headlining club tour.

The 20-plus date tour will include select festivals and will coincide with the release of his new album out August 5th on Rounder Records. Gordon and his band will play a special intimate warm-up show at The Iron Horse in Northampton, MA on June 30th. Also of special note is the September 4th show in Chicago, IL at The Park West, which will feature multiple musicians and performance artists, all to be announced shortly.

For his touring band, Gordon auditioned a myriad of musicians over the past six months. The five-piece includes longtime collaborator Scott Murawski on guitar, Vermonters Craig Myers on percussion and Tom Cleary on keyboards and Brooklyn drummer Todd Isler.

"THE GREEN SPARROW" IN STORES AUGUST 5th

We're thrilled to announce the release of Mike Gordon's new solo album, The Green Sparrow. Set for an August 5th release via Rounder Records, The Green Sparrow showcases his wide range of influences in a winning 10-track album.

A rewarding year and a half of work went into The Green Sparrow. An artist known for his endless creativity and touring stamina, Mike took 2007 off from touring and dedicated his time to writing this record. His efforts yielded a vibrant new solo album full of accessible songs and unmistakable creations of Gordon's playfully idiosyncratic musical mind. He worked mainly at his home studio in Vermont, but also forayed to New York's Electric Lady Studios for additional recording and Trey Anastasio's rural Vermont studio, The Barn, for mixing.

The Green Sparrow features special guests Trey Anastasio and Page McConnell, Bill Kreutzmann (The Grateful Dead), Chuck Leavell (The Rolling Stones), Ivan Neville and horn players from Antibalas.

From the deeply rooted funk of "Radar Blip" to the rousing intricacies of "Andelmans' Yard," from the spirited rock of "Traveled Too Far" to the punch of "Another Door," The Green Sparrow is a playful album from an artist who continually reveals new layers of far-reaching invention.

Keep your eyes on Mike's website for more information as we move closer to the release date.

Headliners include Railroad Earth (2 nights), Hot Buttered Rum, Peter Rowan & Friends, and Strings for Industry featuring Darol Anger, Tye North, Scott Law and special guest, Michael Kang. We're striving to reduce our energy usage by over 50% - see how we did it and pick up some tips on how to conserve as well.

In the southeast many mountains in WV and other beautiful places are sacrificed to generate cheap electricity for millions of people. The results are ecologically devastating to the local ecosystems and the burning coal releases millions of tons of CO2 into atmosphere contributing to global warming and air pollution.  Until enough renewable and clean energy sources are put in place - the best way to reduce the negative effects of coal-fired electricity is to reduce the amount of energy we consume.

On that note our company began an initiative to see how much we can cut our electric use. I'll explain what we've done and give you the initial results.  As more data (aka electric bills) comes in I'll keep you updated on our ongoing progress. My personal goal is to achieve a 50% reduction.

When we first moved into this location - electric baseboard was the only form of heating.  Those first bills were enormous (well over $200/month in the winter). We quickly discovered that electric baseboard heating was one of the most inefficient forms of heating.  In quick order we added some propane heaters to the mix and reduced our heating costs greatly early on.  When our central air conditioner died the next summer, we opted for a high efficiently heat pump/AC - a good move! Now we only use a few gallons of propane each year to help out on the coldest days or when there are power outages.

We replaced all the windows with double pane vinyl windows - which are a huge improvement over the original uber-drafty ones.

OK. Keep in mind that all of the above was implemented before we started our new greening initiative, so the results will only show the changes we've made recently (since Feb 2008).  Here's what we've done since then:

CFL_sky_0We have installed Compact Florescent Lightbulbs (CFLs) into most of the fixtures in our office and home.  We've been putting them into the most used fixtures first and will gradually eliminate all standard incandescent bulbs.

We also installed a water heater blanket insulator to help save on that energy cost - these run under $20 and are something anyone can install. Heating hot water uses a lot more energy than most realize and making that process more efficient is wise.

We installed an attic fan to vent hot air in the summer - reducing cooling costs and increasing roof life.

We added power strips to computers, entertainment centers and other areas so that phantom power loads are eliminated when not in use by switching off the power strips. We now shut down all of the computers each evening after we're done working and the files have backed up.

We installed a programmable thermostat allowing the air conditioning to turn down automatically when not needed.

atticbeforeatticbeforeWe blew in approximately 1200lbs of recycled cellulose fiber insulation into attic increasing the insulation depth from about 5 inches to about 12 inches.  If you find that your attic is lacking adequate insulation you can do this too.  My wife & I completed it on a Saturday. Your local Home Depot or Lowes will rent you the blower for free if you purchase a certain amount of insulation (we used about 2x as much as required for the free rental).

In addition to the projects above we also educated our employees on ways to conserve (like turning off monitors, lights, printers, stereo etc when not in use). Sherry, Trevor & I attended a Renewable Energy Class offered by our local community college.  This course taught us many of the principals we're now putting into motion.  There's also a plethora of great books on the subject.  One that I recommend that covers many subjects is the Solar Living Sourcebook from www.realgoods.com .

RESULTS!

March 2008- bill shows we reduced our AVG KWH/day from 54 in 2007 to 42 in 2008 that's a 22% decrease!

April 2008 - 48 KWH/day to 33 a 31% decrease!

May 2008 - 42 KWh/day to 23 a 45% decrease!!!

June 2008 - 54 KWH/day to 42 a  22 % decrease!  Multiple triple digit record high temps this month cut into savings percentage.

July 2008 - 62 KWH/day to 39 a 37% decrease!

In July we installed solar collectors to heat our hot water and replaced our old 1992 refridgerator with a new Energy Star model.

August 2008 - 67 KWH/day to 32 a 52% decrease!  Goal achieved!

Ocotber 2008 - 45 KWH/day to 23 a 49% decrease.

We hope you'll learn from our examples and decrease your carbon footprint as well!
