The semi-legendary Ha Ha the Moose release a CD!
ha_ha_the_moose_promo_photoMaterializing from foreign dossiers, backwater trailer parks and murky police reports, the three members of Ha Ha The Moose are still a mystery. They give no interviews and leave no traces - except throngs of fans who have been rocked faceless by their powerful music. They are a unique phenomenon in the music industry. Certified sextuple-platinum in pirate downloads, they have nothing to prove and the artistic freedom that only comes from unadulterated cult success.

(Supposedly) meeting and forming in a Swiss Jail, their namesake brand of "Moose Music" sprang to life in the spring of 1972. The unlikely union of volcanic talent and terrifying rap sheets made for the perfect storm that created the power trio cabaret that is: Ha Ha The Moose. Collectively hailing from Rio De Janeiro, Austria and parts unknown, "The Moose" (as their fans call them) has been known to mine that lyrical and musical grey zone between the taboo and the idiotic with such Herculean prowess as to leave those in their wake "gasping for a shred of reality" and "feeling like I had just gone fishing in Cambodia circa 1974 " not to mention "my brain hurts" Such is the paradoxical nature of these three "gentlemen".

Consisting of :
Dr. Guano - Bass, Vox
Sludge - Drums, Vox
Jeff ( von KickAss ) - Gtr, Vox.
If you like moe. you may like Ha Ha the Moose, or you may not.

Matthews (mandolin, fiddle & vocals), decides to part ways with the band he helped form.
zac-msg2Dear Friends and Fans of Hot Buttered Rum,

I am writing to let you know of my recent decision to part ways with HBR. This decision was by no means an easy one, nor a sudden one. After a great deal of introspection and band discussion, our separation emerged as the only viable way for everyone involved to move forward.

I want to take this moment to express deepest gratitude to you, the Butter Community, for your infinite love and support. This incredible community has always been as important to me as the music itself. You, more than anything, have allowed and encouraged me to pour my heart and soul into HBR, and you have given me great hope that people can make the world a better place. For this I offer sincere thanks.

If you feel sadness, I empathize with you over what is being lost -- the unique synergy between the five of us was indeed magic. But certainly music and magic live on. I hope you will share in a feeling of excitement for me and for HBR as we journey forward along separate paths. I continue to be an advocate for HBR's success, and eagerly await the new songs that my brothers and their future collaborations will yield.

I also expect this time of change to recharge my own creative reservoir for music and other endeavors. I look forward to channeling many incredible connections into fruitful collaborations.

Further down the road we'll meet again. But for now, this is it, high times...

Muscle Shoals, AL - Lightning Rod Records will release Jason Isbell and The 400 Unit's eponymous album on February 17, 2009.

"...confident, charismatic songwriting that just can't be taught." - Pitchfork

"...a gorgeously whisky-soaked country-soul masterpiece." -Spin Magazine

Isbell is a former member of the Drive-By Truckers and this is his second solo release isbell(his first release with his band The 400 Unit). The 400 Unit is Derry deBorja (keyboards), Jimbo Hart (bass) and Browan Lollar (guitar). Matt Pence (Centro-matic/South San Gabriel) lends his talents as co-producer, drummer and engineer.

The album was co-produced by Isbell and The 400 Unit with Matt Pence. "I want it to be known that it's a band record," says Isbell. "I want it to be known that it's something we all did together. Even though I wrote the songs, it was a very inclusive project." Isbell has posted the new track, "Seven-Mile Island," on the band's MySpace site.

The album was recorded at the renowned FAME Studios in Muscle Shoals, AL. Isbell, who Details Magazine calls "one of America's best young songwriters," is following in the tradition of American songwriters who have recorded in North Alabama. Much like Arthur Alexander, Eddie Hinton and Spooner Oldham, Isbell mixes a soulful vocal style with songs that are passionate and unrepentant in their sense of place and direct in their stubborn Southerness.

Isbell and The 400 Unit have played over 200 dates since the release of Sirens Of The Ditch  (including All Points West, Voodoo Music Experience and WXPN Freedom Fest) and will announce the first round of their 2009 dates soon.

This is the second release for Nashville-based Lightning Rod Records whose US distribution and marketing is handled by Thirty Tigers/RED.
