Funk You - 4/16/2021 Savannah, GA

On April 16th, the band hailing from Augusta, Georgia returned to the tour scene after what feels like a lifetime without live music!

Kicking off their 10th Anniversary Tour in the hauntingly beautiful Savannah, Georgia, Funk You left everyone in the crowd singing, "Funk Yessssss!"

Never disappointing, Funk You sold out Savannah's Victory North for the second time. Celebrating their 10 year anniversary together, this collection of musicians only continues to crush it!

One of my favorite bands to see live, this 9-piece not only provides fans with funky fresh tunes, but the band's energy is nothing short of spectacular. While the band's stage presence is always phenomenal, the covers the band plays are always epic!

Don Henley, The Meters, and The Beatles all in one night...pretty outstanding to say the very least. The Eleanor Rigby cover absolutely stole my heart and reminded me why I absolutely love this band...Another 5 Star Show!!

Funk You is Gavin Hamilton on lead vocals, Evan Miller-Guitar, William Foster on Keys, Will Clark-Drums, Palmer Owens on Percussion, Mark 'Earl' Dykes-Bass, Gnarly G on Sax, Josh Spilliards-Trombone & Sousaphone, and Geoff Wood-Trumpet & Guitar!!

I was able to catch up with Funk You's lead guitarist Evan Miller for a quick chat and here is what he had to say...

First, I always want to know-

What made you want to become a musician/when did you know this was what you were meant to be doing?

I fell in love with music early on since my grandma played piano in our church. That's what got my attention shifted to music and to start playing. I picked up the guitar in high school because a friend of mine had a few of them laying around and haven't looked back since.

Who is your Favorite band/Favorite guitarist (currently/of all time?)

This is always a tough question because there are so many of them. This changes all the time so it's hard to nail down a favorite but I can name a few of my biggest influences in no particular order that include David Gilmour, Eric Krasno, George Benson, Jimmy Herring, Mark Lettieri, Jake Cinninger, Brendan Bayliss, Trey Anastasio, Cory Wong and Chuck Garvey

What is your favorite kind of guitar to play?

I have always loved the versatility of Paul Reed Smith instruments. I currently own two with my main guitar being a gold top McCarty that just has tons of character. Her name is Goldilocks.

What has been the most challenging about playing during this pandemic?

The hardest part initially was not being able to play at all. We had to get inventive with ways that we could still make music and keep our fans engaged throughout quarantine. We are slowly getting back to safe socially distanced gigs and that feels really good.

And the final question...

What is coming up in the near future for yourself and Funk You??

We are currently on our 10 year anniversary tour which has been going really well. We are excited to play some festivals this summer including Mountain Music Fest and Summercamp. We also are looking to release a new album this Fall so keep your eyes out for that announcement!
