This legendary festival has won “Best Music Event” by the International Dance Music Awards (IDMA) in 2009, 2008, 2007 & 2005, “Best International Dance Music Festival” by the Ibiza DJ Awards in 2008 and “Best Festival” by the Village Voice Media New Times in 2009, 2008, 2007 & 2006. UMF Miami 2009 set a new record with more than 85,000 party people in attendance over two days, coming to Ultra from 56 countries & territories, 50 states and Puerto Rico.

Originally created as a pure EDM (electronic dance music) festival in 1999, Ultra has grown through the years to present not only the World’s hottest, biggest and best headline EDM artists (The Prodigy, The Chemical Brothers, Tiesto, Underworld, MOBY, Fatboy Slim, Carl Cox, Paul van Dyk, David Guetta, Armin Van Buuren, Erick Morillo, Deadmau5 and Paul Oakenfold, to name a few), but also crossover headline bands that incorporate EDM elements in their music and have a history, or new beginning in the EDM community and culture (The Cure, The Killers, The Black Eyed Peas, Bloc Party, The Bravery).

UMF expanded to a 2-day festival in 2007 and now boasts 16 stages set over both days featuring more than 250 bands, DJs, artists, and producers. Every EDM genre and sub genre is represented at Ultra (house, trance, electro, indie-rock, dance rock, techno, drum & bass, breakbeat, alternative, minimal, big beat, jamtronica and more…).

Freek_Logic_Molitz

A band so new, it is not yet named. "Logic's smokin' beats, with Freekbass' funky basslines, is topped off with Molitz otherworldly keyboards."

FreekbassThe Church of Universal Love and Music held their annual Funk festival over the summer and it featured some of the greatest funk musicians touring right now. This year, Freekbass met up with Steve Molitz, keyboard player for Particle, and turntablist, DJ Logic. Freekbass and Molitz joined DJ Logic onstage for a crazy jam that did not focus on any particular song. The energy was so high and the vibes so good, the three decided that they needed to get together with more frequency, and have tentatively begun to get a band together. The band hopes to tour together late winter and Spring of 2010.

Chris "Freekbass" Sherman says of the meeting, "It turned out to be one of those magical SteveMolitzmusical moments, so we decided to do some full shows together." Because of the way that the audience was an integral part of the initial jam, they felt strongly that the audience should be involved with the creation and naming of the band. So we are asking people that are interested to go to Twitter and answer "Name the new DJ Logic, Steve Molitz, Freekbass groove project. Tweet using the hashtag #logicmolitzfreek. Or hit Logic and Freekbass directly at http://twitter.com/projectlogic and/or http://twitter.com/freekbass. The person whose name is chosen will be on the Lifetime-Guestlist to this "yet to be named band's" shows.

For its ninth incarnation set for July 22-25, FloydFest offers nine free music downloads from select Under-the-Radar Artists.

floydAs is tradition, FloydFest makes deeply discounted tickets (up to 40% off regular gate price) available to their patrons during the month of December. As most returning patrons know, the Holiday season is the best time to purchase festival admission tickets and secure the coveted on-site parking spots. Promoters report ticket sales are up an impressive 65% over last year. The On-site RV parking spots sold out in a record 72 hours since on-sale date. All is not lost for folks wishing to camp in style, as the off-site RV spots, as well as VIP and Souvenir are still available. For those who prefer the comfort of a crisp hotel bed, FloydFest is teaming up with select local lodging partners to offer hotel packages especially for festival patrons - more details can be found on ticketing and lodging pages of the festival website at www.floydfest.com.

FloydFest 'hurricaned' onto the music scene, quite literally as those select few thousand folks who were there remember, back in September of 2002 with a goal to provide a unique, safe, family friendly, uplifting experience for music and outdoors lovers of all ages and tastes. "At the time", recalls Svetlana Nikic VP of Communications for the event, "there were Bluegrass Festivals, there were Rock Festivals, World Music /Reggae Festivals, and there were Jam Festivals... but as hard as I looked at that time, I could not find one that appealed to an audience with an eclectic taste... until FloydFest".

The beauty and serenity of the FloydFest venue, an 80 acre wooded plateau adjoining the Blue Ridge Parkway, is another draw for the thousands of fans and their families visiting each year. The Blue Cow Pavilion, carefully nurtured and groomed by promoters at Across-the-Way Productions, and their partners Dreaming Creek Timber Frame and Streamline Timber Frames, boasts 7 unique stages, natural amphitheatres, pristine wooded camping, unique landscaping, abounding fresh air and thousands of memories and stories of those who came and left their mark, and their dancing footprints. FloydFest is where friends and families are reunited, where children have their first camping experiences, where new friendships are sparked, new music discovered, and for some lucky festivarians, new love found.

For FloydFest it has always been about more than just music. But like the invisible string, music ties the experience for all. This year's preliminary lineup again spans genres and generations, including some old favorites and lots of emerging talent. At the helm of the line-up is, well, quite appropriately, The Levon Helm Band, featuring that iconic drummer, song-writer and frequent vocalist from legendary The Band. Also on the bill are the hard-hitting Australian Urban Roots band Blue King Brown, funk masters Soulive, as well as Eric Krasno & Chapter2,  the uniquely percussive Konono No 1, Alaska-based Bearfoot bringing their own unique style of Americana, Bassekou Kouyate & Ngoni ba, a West African lute virtuoso,  and Cornmeal, an energetic alt-Bluegrass band recently taking that scene by storm.  Renowned for its uniquely varied artist roster, the 2010 event will also feature Joe Pug,   The Low Anthem, Pimps of Joytime, Mountain Heart, the Wiyos, Soulhound, the Two Gentlemen Band, Holy Ghost Tent Revival, Boulder Acoustic Society, and last year's Under the Radar Series winner, The Mantras.

The Under-the-Radar (UtR) Series was an inspired addition to recent FloydFests, and grants stage time to lesser known but often impressively talented up-and-coming performers. The UtR series gives audience members the opportunity to vote, at the end of the festival, on their favorite performing UtR band, with the winner receiving a main stage slot at the following year's event. In addition to last year's winning act, the 2008 UtR winner, William Walter & Company, will also return to FloydFest this year.  As a special gift, ALL early purchasers, patrons who get their tickets by December 31st, will receive nine FREE mp3 downloads featuring Under-the-Radar performers Diane Durrett, Ralph Roddenbery Band, Electric Codpiece, The Atkinsons, Jason SpoonerLefty Williams Band , Funkuponya, Lingo, and Pedro Arevalo.

FloydFest will take place on July 22-25 2010 at mile post 170.5 on the beautiful Blue Ridge Parkway in Floyd County, VA. For tickets and more information visit www.floydfest.com

New Guitarist, Perfect World Album Release, National Tour, Holiday Gifts, and more!

A band is a living organism: changing, adapting, and growing.  As one ebbs another flows and we use every experience as a reminder of where we have been and a forecast of where we are going.  It is with much sadness that U-Melt announces the departure of guitarist, Rob Salzer, from U-Melt. Rob helped create U-Melt out of a440 in 2003 and has enjoyed all of U-Melt’s adventures over the last 6 years. Together, we have had the pleasure of creating both unique music and a passionate fan base in cities around the country. Rob has decided he needs to attend to both his medical needs (not too serious, don’t worry!) and new personal endeavors.  While we are sad to see our dear friend go, we admire Rob for taking care of himself and we are by his side during this process. The band completely supports his decision as we know it is right for him at this time.  Rob is always a member of the U-Melt family and we look forward to collaborating with him in both the studio and on the stage in the future.

Moving forward to the next exciting chapter for U-Melt, it is with great pleasure that we announce that long time friend of the band, Kevin Griffin, will be U-Melt’s new guitarist beginning in February for the Perfect World Album Release Tour (dates below).  Kevin has shared the stage with U-Melt a number of times over the years and solidified his place in the family the last few weeks by proving his impeccable taste and timing during the audition process.  According to U-Melt's keyboardist, Zac Lasher, "Kevin's sense of timing and space are fantastic, and he can make some great sounds with his guitar rig. When we were playing together the other day, he was doing some textural stuff that absolutely blew my mind. He brought a new sound and energy to the music that had Bendy, G, and I looking up and laughing because it sounded so damn good. "  He has been a staple on the NY/NJ live music scene for many years, sometimes juggling as many as 5 different and diverse bands at a time and playing 200 shows a year.  Those of you that have been able to catch The Point or Reckoning can imagine how excited we are to add his extensive experience and great talent to U-Melt.  In addition to playing a captivating guitar, Kevin studied jazz woodwinds and audio recording tech at the same school as Adam and Rob.  We are very excited for the multi-faceted approach Kevin will be adding to U-Melt’s sound along with his spirited song writing skills, impressive catalogue of covers and years of musical experience on the road.  (N)U-Melt in 2010!

We thank our fans for their support and their patience these last few months.  We know you will all help us welcome our new spectacular guitarist to the band.  As the tide shifts U-Melt has a lot of exciting news for 2010.  First,  we will be streaming one track from U-Melt’s upcoming album, "Perfect World", over the next 10 weeks on our MySpace page http://www.facebook.com/l/156ad;www.myspace.com/umelt .  "Perfect World" will be released in stores nationally via Harmonized Records on February 23, 2010 and we'll be celebrating it's release with a party in our hometown of New York City at the Bowery Ballroom!  As each week passes, we'll replace the studio track in Myspace with new one.  So, be sure to check in every week for a taste of "Perfect World" and other exciting news on unreleased outtakes and new songs with Kevin Griffin.  Finally, get ready for the holidays U-Melt style!  In the coming weeks we will be releasing a number of new crisp SBD recordings through our very own U-Tunes live download service http://www.facebook.com/l/156ad;livedownloads.com/live-music/3,441/U-Mel... .  If you’re looking for the perfect present for that friend that has everything, you can rest assured they do not have these unreleased recordings.  Be sure to join us on the Perfect World National Tour as we launch a new era of U-Melt.
