Let's all get cheesy in the mothership!

The String Cheese Incident announce the final stop on their 2010 calendar: an epic "Hulaween" weekend of Incidents on Friday, October 29, with the Disco Biscuits, and Saturday, October 30 at the famed Hampton Coliseum in Hampton, Virginia.

Tickets for the Hampton shows go on sale April 20 at
www.stringcheeseincident.com. .25 cents from every ticket sold to these shows will go to support three not-for-profit organizations close to the SCI community: HeadCount, Rex Foundation, and Conscious Alliance.

In the tradition of a decade of legendary SCI Halloween Incidents, and at a venue that holds its own as an east coast favorite, The String Cheese Incident's 2010 Hulaween weekend at Hampton Coliseum promises to be an over-the-top event that only SCI could invent.

Years past have offered a "Joan Shrivers'" Red Carpet welcome at Hollywood's Shrine Auditorium, an ode to Michael Jackson's
Thriller in Las Vegas, and many more memorable events.

The String Cheese Incident's recent live release,
Trick or Treat (SCI Fidelity Records / October 2009), best tells the potent musical history of SCI's "Hulaween" Incidents. Known to perform special concerts comprised heavily of cover tunes each Halloween, Trick or Treat offers selections from SCI performances recorded at Atlanta's Variety Playhouse (1998), Philadelphia's Electric Factory (1999), Portland's State Theatre (2000), New York City (2001), Los Angeles' Shrine Auditorium (2002), Sin City's Cox Pavilion (2003), and Madison Alliant Energy Center (2005). The two-disc release is available now on CD, vinyl, and digitally at www.stringcheeseincident.com.

February's announcement that The String Cheese Incident would perform select summer dates ended a three-year break from touring. Anticipation for these summer plays is high, as demonstrated when tickets to The String Cheese Incident's Red Rocks and Horning's Hideout shows sold out just minutes after they went on sale.

For this next era in the band's career, SCI stays true to its roots by nurturing their community and creating live musical experiences rather than just concerts. In 2010, look for SCI to continue to think out-of-the-box about their musical journey - hosting special events instead of the typical tour-routing, exploring new ways of releasing recordings, and building on their reputation as innovators of fan participation.

"Turtle Soup is goood... Turtle Soup is delicious!" - John Popper (Blues Traveler)

Turtle Soup is a tasty original blend of rock, funk and trance with Latin and world music accents. Based in New Jersey, their unique sound, upbeat songs and explosive musicality have audiences in the Northeast US coming back for more. Every year, they donate a 4-hour set for charity at the New Jersey Marathon (sometimes to crowds over 10,000 strong), and now Turtle Soup's signature style is growing quicker than ever in the tight-knit music festival community.
Critics also approve with glowing reviews and awards. Turtle Soup was named "New Groove of the Month" at jambands.com, and they've won "Top Jam Band" and "Top Groove Band" at the Asbury Music Awards for several years in a row. Their self-titled CD was mastered by the double Grammy Award Winner, Tom Ruff. CD reviews favorably compare them to classics such as Santana, The Grateful Dead and The Who, while at the same time recognizing them as torch-bearers for a new generation.

They have been paying their dues, and have played with Furthur, moe., Blues Traveler, Steve Kimock's Crazy Engine, Jim Weider's Project Percolator, Ween, Gongzilla, Dark Star Orchestra, Marshall Tucker Band, Max Creek and many others, gaining several endorsements along the way. They have adopted an open taping policy, and post full shows on the Live Music Archive to share their music with their fans.

Turtle Soup's quintet is Jeff "Mudd" Mahajan (Vocals, Guitar, Guitar Synth), Ben Feld (Vocals, Keyboards), Michael McDermott (Bass Guitar), Andy Meyer (Drums) and Mark Nettleingham (Percussion). A dynamic ensemble, they combine the technical prowess of jazz with the energy and charisma of rock and funk. Modern electric and synthesized sounds mesh with one of the world's first instruments, drums and hand percussion, to create dance grooves that take the listener on an adventure that defies time. Their sound is organic and futuristic, all at once creating a sensation that is unmistakably fresh.

HGMN: Where did you guys first meet?

Freekbass: Logic and I met in person for the first time at the Church of Universal Love and Music in Acme,PA. We were both playing shows there that night for the FunkFest they were having. Logic asked me to come up during his set to jam with him and Steve.  Mike Gordon had brought up the idea of all 3 of us doing a project together a couple of months before that,  so we were on that 2 degrees tip for a bit before that.
Steve and I actually met a few years ago at a Particle show in Louisville. Buckethead was opening for Particle on that tour, and Bootsy Collins invited me to come down with him to the show to see Bucket. Before Particle's set, Steve and I rapped for a quick minute.

HGMN: Have you guys ever played together before?

Freekbass: No , this was the first time. Not to sound over the top, but it felt like we had been playing together for years. Very natural and not forced at all.

HGMN: Who came up with the band name?

Freekbass: As you know we had a reach-out through Twitter for people to give us ideas for a name. We got so many great ideas. A lot of the ones we really liked were already being used by other bands. We also thought about just going with the 'LMF' (Logic,Molitz,Freekbass) tag, but we wanted to keep this group open enough name-wise, where we could add or subtract members in the future if we wanted.

So, when we were down to our last couple of days to nail it down, we got an email from this bass player guy named Bootsy, who sent over a bunch of very cool names. Headtronics was one of them, and it just seemed to be the one that stuck and fit the vibe of what we were doing .

HGMN: Do you guys plan on doing any studio work together?

Freekbass: For sure, and we are going to record all of the shows on this first initial swing, so hope to be able to release some live stuff very soon. Every show should be very different. 99.9% of the show will be improv.

HGMN: How would you describe your sound?

Freekbass: Wow, we are so new not sure if we have one yet...funktronica maybe ?  ;)

HGMN: What are your future plans for this project?

Freekbass: On top of this small tour we are doing in April, we plan on releasing a full length CD, and continue to tour. We hope to do a lot of festival and club dates this upcoming summer.

SOJA - Born in Babylon CD

SOJA’s latest album is an album worthy of hearing, amidst a stream of not-so-conscious Reggae that seems to be today’s norm.
