The first annual ALL POINTS WEST MUSIC & ARTS FESTIVAL is set for August 8, 9 and 10, 2008. The three-day, multi-stage music and arts festival will take place at Liberty State Park in New Jersey--a historic location offering panoramic views of the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island and the Manhattan skyline. The festival’s name is inspired by the area’s rich history, particularly Ellis Island and the NJ Central Railroad terminal located on the festival site, where many arriving immigrants boarded trains for ALL POINTS WEST.
Additional details regarding the line-up, ticketing and other information for ALL POINTS WEST will be announced in the coming weeks. A portion of the event's proceeds will benefit "Friends of Liberty State Park."

ALL POINTS WEST is produced by Goldenvoice/AEG Live and Liberty Events in association with the HighLine Ballroom. For up-to-the-minute information on the ALL POINTS WEST MUSIC & ARTS FESTIVAL, visit APWfestival.com

Quint Davis, producer/director of the Festival, said, "Welcoming Stevie Wonder, Billy Joel, Tim McGraw, Sheryl Crow, and Keyshia Cole for the first time, in the same year that we've added the Thursday back to the Festival--and in the same year we're bringing back all-time Fest favorites The Neville Brothers, Jimmy Buffett, Santana, Widespread Panic, Maze featuring Frankie Beverly, and Diana Krall, among so many others--speaks to our serious effort to grow the Festival at a time when New Orleans needs it the most."

Davis added that he hopes this year's fully rejuvenated Festival, which will have an estimated economic impact on Louisiana of approximately $300 million, will have special meaning for the city it represents. "In New Orleans, culture is a beacon for the rest of the community. When a trumpeter blows the right notes, we come together and dance. When a grand marshal steps, we step with him. Jazz Fest is trying to help lead the way in guiding New Orleans to complete recovery--culturally, economically and spiritually."

Annually drawing tens of thousands of fans each day, the Festival will again be held at the Fair Grounds Race Course and run from 11:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. Eleven stages of simultaneous music programming are complemented by an important, unparalleled Food Fair offering more than 100 varieties of authentic Louisiana cuisine and a stunning array of one-of-a-kind crafts available around the grounds in the Festival's juried crafts areas.

Lotus & Telepath - 01.23.08 Cat's Cradle - Carborro, NC

lotusre.jpg
Last night kicked off the first night of the Copy/Paste/Repeat tour featuring Lotus and Telepath. The tour supports the recent release of the CD Copy/Paste/Repeat which features remixed versions of Lotus songs by a variety of artist including Juan Maclean, DJ Harry and appropriately, Telepath.
tele1thTelepath is a real breath of fresh air. Their take on live electronica brings in elements of downtempo, dub, hip-hop and various world flavors from points east like Pakistan and India. This mix is intoxicating, quite enjoyable and designed to get everyone on the dancefloor. This band was virtually unknown a year ago but their music is so intriguing and contagious that their debut CD went on to be one of Home Grown Music's Top Ten sellers of 2007!
The Derek Trucks Band will tour this spring with Santana! Derek has gotten to know Carlos over the last few years and the two share a lot of musical interests and influences. They're both excited to spend time together on the road and we can't wait for the tour!
The Savannah Music Festival is coming up in April and in addition to a Derek Trucks Band performance on April 2, Derek will also be involved in a performance titled "the World of Slide Guitar" featuring Jerry Douglas, Debashish Bhattacharya, and Bob Brozman. Jerry and Derek have collaborated in the past, both on stage and in the studio, and whenever they get together it's always special. Derek has been a fan of Debashish for some time through his love of Indian Classical music. Debashish is a world renowned musician and Derek is very excited to finally get a chance to play with him. We've been hearing great things about Bob Brozman as well so it should be a night to remember.

The Derek Trucks Band will be returning to Jazzfest in New Orleans this year with a performance at the Fairgrounds on May 4. There's always a stellar lineup at Jazzfest and spontaneous collaborations are inevitable. Start to make your plans for the second weekend of Jazzfest now!

For those of you in New Jersey, Scrapomatic featuring Mike Mattison will be playing the Brighton Bar in Long Branch on Feb 16. Go check em out.

Tennessee Jed - Acoustica

tenjed.jpg
For fans of acoustic music, a certain level of devotion to unmolested, unamplified sounds is expected from artists in the genre. Well, Raleigh, NC's Tennessee Jed has concocted a mindset and an album that will satisfy the purist's craving for earthy acoustic vibrations while also entertaining from a songwriting standpoint. There's even a warning on the inside of the CD, assuring the listener that no electric guitars were used in making it. That's devotion to the wood and wire, right there. Acoustica is a great title for this album, in the sense that it embodies a wide range of styles within the same medium.

The Brew - The Key

brew.jpg
Already a much-discussed band throughout New England, The Brew have a genuine shot at capturing the ears of a much larger sect - the nation itself. Their second self-released album, The Key, is as friendly and instantly likeable as a boisterous puppy. A profound focus on song craft helps The Key maintain its easy accessibility, but it's the band's inherent talent that makes the album transcend mere music. Songs are a very good thing, but it often takes a little DNA from the members to make them unique and memorable, and to give them that distant, magical feeling. The Brew have the gift to turn the ordinary into the extraordinary.
