Rainmaker - Long Slow Fade CD

Hailing from the San Francisco Bay Area, Rainmaker is a good ol' rock band - a quartet of bass, drums, keys, and guitar with vocals.
Trinumeral Festival, which takes place August 8-10 at Deerfields in Mills River, NC , is proud to announce the last artist additions to an already stellar line up.
Recently confirmed are Conspirator, GZA/Genius (of the Wu Tang Clan), Particle, Pnuma Trio (live PA), DJ Le Spam (of Spam All Stars), Telepath, The Afromotive, Laura Reed and Deep Pocket, Snake Oil Medicine Show, The New Familiars, Particle, Pnuma Trio (live PA), and Matt MacDonald (formerly of Perpetual Groove), who will be playing with SeepeopleS as well as doing a solo live PA set on Sunday.

September 6, 2008, will mark the 10th anniversary of famed musician, filmmaker and activist for peace Michael Franti's free 911 Power to the Peaceful Festival (PTTP) in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park.
      spearhead
Beginning in 1998, this music, arts and yoga festival, dedicated to educating attendees on issues of social justice, non violence, coexistence and environmental sustainability, has become a staple of San Francisco.  Growing from a crowd of 6,000 ten years ago to an estimated 60,000+ for this year's weekend event, PTTP  is one of the nation's largest free annual music, art and action festivals with a variety of international musicians and artists, renowned keynote speakers and over 200 exhibitors/vendors.

The weekend-long festival begins on Saturday, September 6, with appearances by such musicians as Michael Franti and Spearhead, Ziggy Marley, Warren Haynes, King Britt, Cheb i Sabbah, and a variety of renowned DJ's and other international acts.  Throughout the event, various speakers including Namkha Rinpoche Lama, will address these various issues on the main festival stage and participate in the Amnesty International Sponsored Social Forum Speaker Tent. The Mezzanine in San Francisco will host the Festival AFTERPARTY, featuring an Allstar Jam Session and DJ dance party.  Sunday, September 7 will offer a day of yoga at Yoga Flow Castro hosted by Power to the Peaceful Yoga. PTTP is committed to working with the best teachers available to provide free yoga to those in need and to bring yoga to people and places around the world (prisons, schools, developing nations) who have never had the opportunity to experience its many benefits. Visit www.powertothepeaceful.org/yoga for class schedule and other details.  Again this year, Conscious Alliance will host a Food Drive.  PTTP attendees are encouraged to bring ten non-perishable food items to redeem for an exclusive PTTP Food Drive Poster.  All donations will go to benefit the San Francisco Food Bank (www.SFfoodbank.com).

Past artists and speakers of the event include: Indigo Girls, The String Cheese Incident, John Butler Trio, KRS-1, Digital Underground, Woody Harrelson, Angela Davis, Saul Williams, Dennis Kucinich, Ram Das, Blackalicious, Alice Walker, Talib Kweli, The Coup, Keller Williams, DJ Spooky, Lyrics Born, graffiti artist Vulcan, Youth Speaks Poets, Julia Butterfly Hill, and many more.

International recognition of this event reached a new level in 2007, when PTTP went abroad, initiating events in both South America and Africa. No matter where this Festival takes place, it is committed to sustainability via innovative recycling programs, initiating partnerships with other sustainable organizations and encouraging the use of "green" yoga products.

One of the most moving and politically charged writers, Michael Franti and his band Spearhead, return with their eagerly-awaited album, All Rebel Rockers, on September 9, via Anti-Records. Recorded in Kingston, Jamaica, with reggae's most prolific production teams, Sly & Robbie (No Doubt, Alicia Keys, Sean Paul, Bob Dylan), this new release deviates from Franti's previous sound and comprises a hybrid dub-infused soul flavor with some hard-hitting dub rock production. Alongside Dave Shul (guitars), Manas Itene (drums), Carl Young (bass) and Raleigh Neal (keyboards), the album also features ZapMama founder Marie Daulne and Jamaican soul/dancehall star Cherine Anderson.

Complete information for the festival and all related events can be found at www.powertothepeaceful.org.

All proceeds from Power to the Peaceful Yoga go to the Power to the Peaceful Festival and Organization, an annual event bringing hundreds of thousands of people together under the themes of music, non-violence, consciousness and action.

MICHAEL FRANTI AND SPEARHEAD TO RELEASE NEW ALBUM All Rebel Rockers September 9, 2008

Dave Matthews Band with Michael Franti & Spearhead 07.02.08 Raleigh NC

Many "hip cats" view a band's commercial fame as a blight or curse.
Using such logic, I would have to give up my favorite candy, M&M's. M&M's are incredibly popular and loved by people of all ages and backgrounds. Should I give up such yumminess based on the logic that "popular" equals "not worthy?" I think not. Much like Dave Matthews Band's music, M&M's taste just as good now as they did 15 years ago - if not better.
Featuring: 2 nights of Ekoostik Hookah and SeepeopleS and some of the Northeast's best bands such as Jsan and the Analog Sons, Revision, and Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad to name a few!

In addition to great music on 4 stages, Musefest is happy to continue with its annual Musefest drum circle from One Heart Community Drum, as well as the tradition of the Musefest parade, leading from the Kiddie Village/Family Camping area throughout the festival grounds on Sunday morning. Rev. Zicka-funk’s Future Peak
The festival hounds abound in Middle America will be happy to hunker down for a hoot and a holler in the lower pockets of Minnesota for an amazing three days of world-class music and scenery at the 5th annual 10,000 Lakes Festival. The festival dubbed 10KLF touts a hard hitting, diverse and boogie friendly line-up, encompassing 60+ acts swinging from jam to funk to electronic crunk and the gamut in between. The 600-acre Soo Pass Ranch is nestled comfortably within a sprawling heavenly slice of the most pristine landscape and wildlife in the Western Hemisphere featuring drinkable, crystal clear lakes spotted by narrow strips of scenic "land bridges" and lush forests. One can expect an occasional bald eagle, fox or other rare critter sighting in that neck of the woods so bring binoculars and plenty of heavy-duty mosquito spray.

10klf1

The musical sprockets on the Ranch are geared for grinding with the New Mastersounds, Deep Banana Blackout, Lotus, EOTO, JJ Grey and Mofro and George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic bringing the full frontal funk attack. The Mothership is scheduled to touch down at too few festival dates this year so don't miss a chance to put the party in your pants when the boogie beams down. Other music highlights on the roster will please the most demanding percussive palette with the crowd-pleasing Flaming Lips, Medeski, Martin, Scofield & Wood, Dub Trio and Slightly Stoopid. Never fear dreaded Dead heads, Phil Lesh and Friends, Mickey Hart Band and the always-stellar, Dark Star Orchestra will be driving that train all weekend long not stopping until the other side of Terrapin Station.

10KLF offers a slew of features for the whole family including child-oriented activities, day workshops, shopping from artisan and other choice merchandise vendors as well as serving up a myriad of international cuisine from around the festival circuit. Both Lake Sallie and the Blue Ox/Viking campgrounds feature Entertainment Tents for live music and amazing acoustic performances throughout the day.

10klf2

The organizers of 10KLF paint a much larger picture of community consciousness by teaming up with various charities such as the Rex Foundation, Rock the Earth, Head Count, and the Consciousness Alliance among others. 10KLF also supports the arts, local schools and student musicians by providing much needed musical instruments for the Detroit Lakes Public School Jazz Band. A portion of every festival ticket purchased is donated and split equally among each respective charity. In addition to charity support, 10KLF actively promotes a cleaner, better planet by reducing landfill waste generated by the festival through the audience friendly We B Green recycling program.

For a amazing dose of music and nature, load up with your posse, pack your swimming trunks and dust off your boogie shoes for a raucous road trip to Detroit Lakes. Don't sweat the long haul because the sweetest fruit is often the hardest to reach.

Festival tackles the huge task of greening a large scale event.

ROTHBURY:A FESTIVAL CELEBRATING MUSIC, ART AND ACTION
JULY 3 - 6, 2008 IN ROTHBURY, MICHIGAN

As leaders in the evolving art of sustainable large-scale event production, ROTHBURY is 100% committed to taking every possible step to reduce the environmental impact of the festival.  While such a commitment does not come without its challenges, ROTHBURY, together with local and national partners who share the same pledge, will indeed demonstrate the vast possibilities in sustainability and hopefully highlight those areas that need serious attention.

ROTHBURY, working with Green Chief Sarah Haynes of the Spitfire Agency, is the first major U.S. camping festival to aim for a near zero waste event by composting throughout the entire festival site. All disposable food service items have been replaced with plant-based compostables.  Compost will be pulped on-site thanks to Morbark, then processed by Spurt Industries in Grand Rapids.

In an effort to reduce plastic water bottle waste, ROTHBURY is working with Klean Kanteen to encourage crew and festival-goers to bring or buy reusable bottles and to take advantage of free refill stations in the campgrounds, within the festival site, and in the backstage areas.  For those who choose to buy disposable water bottles, the only front-of-house provider on-site  will be Earth Water.  In passing up the big companies and going with Earth Water, ROTHBURY will contribute to building wells in refugee camps all over the world.  100% of Earth Water's profits go to building wells; and $500 builds a well.  That's a lot of wells!

For those darn bottles, ROTHBURY will offer 200 waste reclamation stations throughout the site, most of them manned by a 500 person green team of volunteers committed to helping avoid contamination. The Green Team will also work around-the-clock backstage to re-sort all recycling bags that come in. An additional 55 people will work for three straight days post event to sift every single 'bad' item out on tables, much like a conveyer belt system.

Additional ROTHBURY sustainability initiatives include the use of biodiesel.  ROTHBURY's local B99 biodiesel provider, Next Diesel, is the first company to be a part of Michigan Governor Granholm's green business incentive program. The biodiesel used by ROTHBURY is actually a waste product from manufacturing ethanol. So not only is it plant based, it is also recycled and on it's second life at ROTHBURY.

In addition to offsetting carbon emissions with the Bonneville Environmental Foundation, ROTHBURY has partnered with RVL 7 by RE:VOLVE Apparel, Black Rock Solar and Grand Rapids' own Bauer Power to create the ROTHBURY Solar Schools Program, to support the local community and honor our energy independence theme. The 2008 recipient of the Solar Schools Program, which donates fully installed solar panel systems  to local area schools, is Michigan's Shelby High School. With many ROTHBURY attendees opting in for the festival's Green Ticket (which allows ticket buyers to contribute to the Solar Schools Fund), ROTHBURY's initial $50,000 donation is rapidly growing.  Many thanks to local heroes Bauer Power for offering to build for free so even more money will go to outfitting the school with solar power.

Part of ROTHBURY's objective and sustainability in general, is to support local companies and farmers and organic products whenever possible.  All foods collected in the Conscious Alliance Food Drive will be donated directly to local food pantries and charities to benefit neighboring communities and the on-site Farmers' Market will be powered by area farmers, who are also learning the benefits of organics and how to begin growing organics in their own farms.  To further promote the use of organic goods, RVL 7 by RE:VOLVE will provide all ROTHBURY staff with crew shirts made of a blend of organic cotton and recycled polyethylene terephthalate, or RPET, t-shirts. ROTHBURY has donated to Michigan's chapter of Global Re-Leaf, a tree planting organization that will plant trees in the Muskegon area following the event.

For those interested in taking a piece of this sustainability mission home with them, ROTHBURY is hosting on-site Think Tank panel discussions with some of the top thinkers in the field of Climate Change and Clean Energy.  Attendees are encouraged to take part in the discussions, help develop solutions, and start making changes at home.  The Better World Books bookstore on-site will be stocked with books that match ROTHBURY's ideals and will host signings by many of the participating panelists as well as Our Planet, a guide to saving the environment, created by MySpace.

While producing large-scale sustainable events is far from a perfect science, ROTHBURY is leading the mission to encourage discussion, promote creative thinking and seek new ideas in this effort - not to mention, throwing a serious party.

Musician and activist Kathy Mattea will serve as host for a showing of Michael O’Connell’s award-winning film, “Mountain Top Removal”, Thursday, July 10th at 5:30pm at The Basement in Nashville.
matteaMattea recently viewed the film at the Nashville Film Festival and was moved by the scenes of environmental destruction wrought in her native West Virginia by the coal mining technique called "mountain top removal". Says Mattea, "You must see this to believe it. I am saddened that we've 'progressed' to a point where we think this is an acceptable practice. Michael O'Connell's film gives voice to those that have no multi-million dollar PR firm to tell their story. The visuals are gut-wrenching--there are no words to describe the devastation."

The film recently won the 2008 Reel Current Award from former Vice-President Al Gore, this year's Nobel Peace Prize Winner and the subject of the Academy Award-winning documentary "AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH". The award was presented to O'Connell at the 2008 Nashville Film Festival, where the film was shown to a capacity crowd.  In addition to that prestigious honor, the film has also won First Prize at the Charlotte Film Festival, First Prize at the Mion Solutions Environmental Film Awards, and the Jury Award at the Wild and Scenic Film Festival.

"It's a story of personal determination and courage," Gore told an assembled audience of festival attendees and media members. "It's also a story about the terrible impact on families in the communities that are victimized by
the way in which the coal is being removed from the tops of mountains in Appalachia. This film really brings out the human dimensions of this because you see it through the eyes of a family that's greatly affected and you feel
it in the emotions of a small town that has really been hurt a lot."

Mattea's recent album, "COAL", serves as a meditation on her family roots in the coal country of West Virginia. Recorded as a tribute to "my place and my people," the album features her take on classic mining songs from Hazel Dickens, Jean Ritchie, Merle Travis and others to paint a nuanced portrait, exploring the tragedy that often comes from life in the mines while paying respects to the strength and humility that provides a bedrock foundation to the community. She will be introducing the movie and speaking briefly about the impact of mountain top removal that she has witnessed firsthand.

Filmmaker O'Connell will also be in attendance and will be answering questions after the film.grassrootsdvd

The Basement is located at 1604 8th Ave. South in Nashville. Go to www.thebasementnashville.com for directions.

This event is free and open to the public.

O'Connell's other works include: Grassroots Stages
