Ravi Shankar, the legendary sitarist and composer, is India's most esteemed musical ambassador and a singular phenomenon in the classical music worlds of the East and the West. Some of the performances here were previously unavailable on CD, from his early Columbia, Angel, and Fantasy recordings, to his brilliant experimentations on the Private Music label. The first disc, Out Of The East, gathers his best traditional Indian classical compositions. Disc Two, Into The West, features his collaborations with Western musicians including the late george Harrison.
