The Band - The Archives (3CD)
For many they were as much an American institution as Stars, Stripes and the Ford Model T, and at their peak The Band - 4/5ths of whom ironically came from Canada - epitomised the roots style that would later be termed Americana, without ever knowing they were doing so. This superb collection features three of the finest live shows The Band ever performed, all of which were recorded for live transmission, and which are included here in the best available quality. Kicking off with the extraordinary set they played at the original Woodstock Festival in 1969, this recording has never been released previously, with many unaware The Band ever appeared at the event as they were not included in the movie of the event. The second disc here features The Band's famous show recorded at New York's Palladium in 1976, just a few weeks before 'The Last Waltz' - The Band's Farewell Concert - was recorded and became the legendary Martin Scorsese movie of the same name. Disc Three features The Band in 1976 again, performing at The Carter Barron Amphitheatre in Washington DC on 17th July that year.
