The Marcus King Band hosted a two night throw down at The Peace Center, in beautiful downtown Greenville, South Carolina.  I was able to attend on Friday December 31st to celebrate the coming of the New Year.

Marvin King,  Marcus King's father opened the show with his band the Marvin King Revue.   Marvin started the night off with Highway 61, a Bob Dylan song, but Marvin played it more in line with the well known cover by Johnny Winter. Marvin's slide guitar grabbed the crowds' attention right away, and energy filled the room.

After that we all knew we were in for a night of great music.  Marvin's playing was hypnotizing, so it was easy to understand how Marcus developed his talent and his passion for music listening to his father's set.

The Marcus King band was the act that everyone had come out on this night to see and his hometown crowd filled the venue with cheers and excitement for his performance.  Marcus was happy to be back in front of his hometown, and had the front of the venue filled with friends and family. Throughout the night he talked with the crowd about growing up in the area the music that influenced him, and his family.  He played a special after midnight set of Marshall Tucker Band songs including Fire on the Mountain, Take the Highway and encored with Can't You see, where he had the crowd singing the song back to the band to cap a wonderful night of music and celebration with friends and family
