Hip Bones - The Moose Lodge Sessions CD

$10.99

Bad long before The Bad Plus, Hip Bones has been called "renegade jazz," "psychedelic funk," and "monsters of the mash-up." The band continues to push the boundaries of jazz on The Moose Lodge Sessions.

Co-produced by woodwind man Gary Schwantes and drummer Robin Tolleson, and utilizing the group's two touring bassists, Jake Wolf and Shannon Hoover, the new album revisits tunes by Radiohead and The Grateful Dead, and features four dynamic compositions by Schwantes. "We always try to give our audience a chance to use their mind and heart and get out of it what they want," says Tolleson.

The new album is named for the former Moose Lodge, now a recording studio on Nashville's outskirts, where Hip Bones recorded the first tracks and drank local moonshine with Grammy-winning engineer/producer Bil VornDick (Bela Fleck, Allison Krauss). Additional recording took place in Asheville, NC, Columbia, SC, San Francisco and Oakland, CA, with rappers Gift Of Gab (Blackalicious) and Preach Jacobs, legendary soul singer Sidney Barnes (The Rotary Connection), vocalist Samantha Hyland and banjoist Andy Pond (Snake Oil Medicine Show), joining bassists Jake Wolf and Shannon Hoover.

The project was mixed by engineer Jerry Stucker (Headhunters, Mike Clark, Paul Jackson) in San Francisco, CA.
Additional recording by Jeff Knorr (Asheville, NC) and Gavin Jones (San Francisco, CA).
