LOCKN' 2016

Music fans are treated to an awesome weekend in the hills of Virginia.

In its fourth year, Lockn' Music Festival has fully set a tone of care and respect for its audience (through the solid infrastructure that has taken form), it has developed a personality that is unique amongst its peers (through the attuned selection of each year's acts that have created a thick thumbprint), and it has become a part of the local community in ways where so much is possible - careful planning and regional backbone are key to sustainability.

Live video featuring "Take My Soul" from the upcoming CD, released today!

Funk and soul quartet The Nth Power are proud to announce the release of their dynamic new record, To Be Free - Live, on November 11, 2016. The band recorded the nine-track album in July during two nights of intimate live performances in Boston, MA and one night in the band's hometown of Brooklyn, NY. Seven songs on the album represent new material for the band.

The Nth Power's gospel-style vocals along with their soul, jazz, funk and world-beat riffs create a sound and experience that is made for a live show. At the request of their fans, the band decided to capture that energy on their latest record. The result is an album that exudes the intimacy and organic quality of a live performance paired with the profound talent of four powerhouse musicians: Nikki Glaspie (vocals, drums); Nate Edgar (bass); Nick Cassarino (vocals, guitar); and Courtney J. Mell Smith (vocals, keyboards).

"When we recorded [our debut full-length album], Abundance, we wanted to have a clean studio approach to our music; to hear it done right and done crisp," says Nick Cassarino. "Since that release, we have been touring heavily for a year straight, and we have seen that when performed live, our energy and message seem to translate more fluidly to our audience." To Be Free reflects that natural connection between performers and fans, representing the band's sound in its truest state. "Every song is a journey, a story, a feeling, and an experience that we are honored to share with you," shares Cassarino.

The band has also released a video featuring "Take My Soul", a standout blues track from the album which was filmed live in Boston at The Bridge Sound & Stage. ""Take My Soul" is an extremely powerful song that tells a story about a runaway slave that has surrendered his soul to God as he is being pursued by his adversary," says Nikki Glaspie. "The music is based in the blues tradition, of which, every member in the Nth Power respects and holds dear as an undeniable American Root." Watch a preview for "Take My Soul" HERE.

To Be Free - Live will be distributed through Harmonzied Records and available for purchase exclusively at The Nth Power shows starting on October 12th. The album will then be available in record stores and via online digital and physical retailers on November 11th. Tickets for all To Be Free - Live tour dates go on sale Wednesday, August 31 at 10 am EST.

Lee Crumpton interviewed in this week's edition of "Lonesome Banjo Chronicals"

"In this episode we talk to Lee Crumpton, the owner of Home Grown Music Network. Lee has been one of the most influential people in the southeastern music scene for the last 20 years. He talks about chasing down his passion for music by becoming a DJ--both the party and radio kind--at an early age and how that led him to forming a record label and working with some of the best bands in the nation.

We also talk about what it takes for bands to expand their reach beyond just a couple of states, as well as what he sees for the future of his company."

The acclaimed Colorado funk band releases Phase 1 announcement for their 2016 Fall Tour, including Halloween shows debuting “Mixtape 1979”

The Motet releases Phase 1 announcement for their 2016 Fall Tour. On tour in support of their brand new album release, Totem, The Motet will hit 30+ cities across the country through the end of the year, with additional dates still to be announced. Included in their Fall Tour plans is announcement of the band's famed Halloween Mixtape shows - this year a four night run with stops in Dallas, Houston, Austin, TX and in Asheville, NC debuting "Mixtape 1979." Before Fall Tour officially kicks off on October 6, find The Motet at upcoming festival plays including Peach Fest, Bumbershoot, Camp Barefoot, and others. The complete list of The Motet's currently announced dates is included below.

The Motet released their highly anticipated new album, Totem, on July 8, 2016. The band recently sat down to chat about the new record, which you can check out here.  The future of funk music is clear on Totem; each song is steeped in The Motet's signature style that slaps you in the face with sounds that are fresh and unique. Collectively written by the bands seven members, Totem was produced by Lettuce and Soulive guitarist Eric Krasno.

Praise for Totem is coming in strong as Sound & Silence magazine states, "The songs are melodic and steeped in sweaty dance grooves that are extremely entertaining and well-crafted...Totem is a solid record from start to finish, and one of the most assured and accomplished releases of 2016."   Marquee Magazine agrees, saying Totem "is a full-on continuation of the band's infectiously danceable funky sound."

Earlier this year, The Motet announced the addition of singer Lyle Divinsky, who fans the flames of this already hot band. "There was a month and a half between the time I joined the band and when we went into the studio," explains Divinsky. "I wound up writing the lyrics and melodies to four songs, and re-wrote the lyrics to two. It gave me and the band an opportunity to really connect musically. We're deeply proud of this album and it's very exciting to have this new material to push out as we begin this next phase of The Motet's journey."

The Motet are Dave Watts (drums), Joey Porter (keyboards), Garrett Sayers (bass), Ryan Jalbert (guitar), Gabriel Mervine (trumpet), Lyle Divinsky (vocals), Drew Sayers (saxophone).
