When you attend a Sheryl Crow concert, you know what to expect. Her songs are imbedded in the lexicon of 90's pop culture. However, her 7-28-23 contribution to Beech Mountain's "Party on the Mountain" was a master class in how to curate a set list that tells a story, like the soundtrack to a movie you haven't seen.

Tyler Childers brought along a band of long time friends from the early days of his music career in his home state Kentucky with him to Raleigh to perform to a crowd of adoring fans of all ages. It was a scorching day but that didn't seem to slow the fans down who turned out early for two opening acts, who were both also from Kentucky. Abby Hamilton, a singer songwriter hailing from Nicholasville Kentucky, opened up the show with a folk/rock/country styled set to get things started.

Southern Avenue started off the 7-28-23 edition of Beech Mountain's "Party on the Mountain" with a bang. Although most of the audience was there to see Sheryl Crow perform, they were introduced to an up-and-coming powerhouse, Grammy Nominated, 6-member band, that hails from Memphis which combines a blues sensibility with a rock up-tempo.

The night's first act Langhorne Slim began his set with overcast skies, leading to a slight drizzle, and eventually succumbing to heavy rains with Slim delivering a range of favorites from his latest album, "Strawberry Mansion". The album was written during the Covid-19 pandemic lockdown. At the time, he had recently walked away from alcohol, and the songs came to him with ease. Slim felt the presence of his grandfather and his uncle with him during the time of the album's creation. Both men grew up in Strawberry Mansion, PA.

The historic Carolina Theatre in Durham is an excellent venue to experience your favorite performers. It has been a cornerstone of culture in downtown Durham for almost a century (the city-owned theater originally opened in 1926). Some fans of the band commented on how they enjoyed seeing them here in a more intimate setting as compared to the last time they played this city in the much larger, Live Nation managed, Durham Performing Arts Center.
