Camp Barefoot 5 Photos

Check out photos from this year's Camp Barefoot 5: which featured an exhaustive & comprehensive collection of artists, plucked from varying genres and styles. Fans of funk, electronic, bluegrass, and more straightforward “jam” enjoyed many pockets of music to entertain themselves throughout the weekend.

The Home Grown Music Network is a proud sponsor of Camp Barefoot, and several of our bands were featured prominently on the bill for this year's festival.  Bands like SILO Effect, Funkuponya, and the Mantras were all selected for the festival numerous times, while others (Big Daddy Love, Big Something, UV Hippo, and Future Rock) made thier first appearance at Camp Barefoot this year.

SciFi - SciFi CD

Sci-Fi’s self-titled release on Coma Gun Records (Asheville, NC) presents a pleasing concoction of exploratory jazz and organically driven electronica that moves the body, yet satisfies the head.

2008 Loki Festival

The first ever Loki Festival dawned on the scenic Deerfields Camp Grounds of Asheville, NC to ideal weather and colorful hints of autumn along the forest skyline. For a start up Loki’s musical line-up boasted one of the heftiest funk forecasts all season and the colorfully adorned campers in attendance seemed antsy to groove. With funk heavy weights like Lettuce, Porter Batiste and Stoltz (PBS), and George Clinton on board, there was undeniable sense of boogie in step.

New Additions:

moestan1thmoe. - Dr. Stan's Prescription Vol. 1 (3 CDs) - The newest of moe.'s live archival series features complete, unedited, unexpurgated content chosen by the band's archivist Dr. Stan Lobitz - Pennsylvania general practitioner by day, devoted rock archivist by night. In the thirteen years that he has been carefully preserving moe. history, he has amassed a collection containing thousands of tapes. Who better than Dr. Stan to choose gems from the moe. vault? Volume 1 is a live recording of the pool deck show from the 3/8/04 moe. Caribbean cruise, with loads of filler from a vintage Vail, CO show dated 3/17/95. $17.99

dscott3thDarrell Scott - Modern Hymns CD - This acoustic folk record features Del McCoury, Mary Gauthier, Alison Krauss, Danny Thompson, Dirk Powell, and many, many others! The album is comprised of songs written by some of the greatest songwriters in North American history, including Gordon Lightfoot, Hoyt Axton, Pat Metheny, Paul Simon, John Hartford, and many others! Grammy-winning engineer Gary Paczosa (Alison Krauss & Union Station, Dolly Parton, John Prine) and Darrell, recording "live" in the state-of-the art Blackbird Studios in Nashville, perfectly capture the prevalent musical mood - a simple, natural blend of acoustic country, bluegrass and folk without artifice or exaggeration. $15.99

gsbg4thGreensky Bluegrass - Five Interstates CD - Greensky Bluegrass convened once again on the banks of the Pine River, deep in the northern woods of Michigan, to make their fourth album. These songs will lead you down paths expected and unexpected with stories of love, loss, deceit and strength of will, with moments both pastoral and frightening. The songs are sung with open hearts and played with a passion as big as the bonfires the band stood at and gazed into at the end of each day. $13.99

coththChildren of the Horn CD - Blue break-beats from the 70's, mixing in the New Orleans sound, a few shots of Caribbean music, and some soul-jazz on top! Children of the Horn is an instrumental ensemble that has created a unique sound by combining influences from jazz, rhythm and blues, and world music. With a frontline of horns backed by a rhythm section, Children of the Horn takes the listener on a kaleidoscopic journey through original compositions that run the gamut from super-syncopated Latin-funk to swaggering New Orleans Second Line styles to classic Motown-inspired grooves. $9.99
