Rothbury 2009 lives up to all the hype and has established itself as one of the "must see" festivals of the summer. It's like a fantasy world summer camp for adults topped off with some of your favorite bands. Bring along some of your best friends and you're in for one of the most memorable weekends of the summer.

All Good Music Festival 2009, Take 1

The 13th Annual All Good Festival at Marvin’s Mountaintop near Masontown, WV.

kellerIn spite of delays and technical difficulties we made it to Marvin's Mountaintop in time to catch some of Thursday's music. As the Security guards at the VIP entrance rummaged through everything we owned (for our safety, of course) we could hear Boombox's house party reverberating through the hills. We got in and found our spot just as Keller Williams was starting his one-man musical carnival. All the

New Additions:

kw13thKeller Williams with Moseley, Droll, and Sipe - Live (2 CDs & 1 DVD) - Keller Williams has built a career on his uncanny ability to captivate a packed house all by himself. So why now, after 15 years as a solo artist, is he releasing a live album - simply titled Live - with three other names on the cover? It turns out that since he first picked up a guitar, this troubadour has wanted to front a band. On Live, Keller taps into the world-class talent of Keith Moseley (bass), Gibb Droll (guitar), and Jeff Sipe (drums). The musical horsepower of four friends playing together on stage proves stronger than even Keller had dreamed. Recorded at select live shows during a winter 2007-2008 tour, Live is a testament to how a band, with the right chemistry and chops, can take a song to places even the writer couldn't have imagined. $24.00

gcgolthGeorge Clinton and His Gangsters of Love CD - The all-star extravaganza that George Clinton has been wanting to record for years is here! P-Funk-style versions of George's favorite classic lovesexy R&B tracks from over the years combine with dynamic originals to make George Clinton And His Gangsters Of Love the ultimate Clinton musical experience. Guest artists include Santana, Sly Stone, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, El DeBarge, The RZA, Kim Burrell, Shavo (System of A Down) and more! $18.00

thileemthEdgar Meyer & Chris Thile CD or CD & DVD - Nonesuch releases the first recording collaboration by bassist Edgar Meyer and mandolinist Chris Thile! The album features 12 original compositions by the duo, who have been performing together sporadically for the past several years. This collaboration is a meeting of two prodigious, Grammy-winning talents in the most down-home of settings - the pair recorded a dozen co-written compositions at Meyer's house in Nashville, using no other musicians, no words, and no frills. Their wide-ranging musical dialogue incorporates bluegrass, folk, classical, and country elements. CD $18.98; CD & DVD $23.98

marcb2thMarc Broussard - Keep Coming Back CD - With Keep Coming Back, Marc Broussard aimed to deliver an album that conveys his energetic live show. Marking his debut release on Atlantic Records, this set of original tunes does more than that. Recorded in just 11 days at Nashville's historic Ocean Way Studios, Keep Coming Back confirms Broussard's position as an artist with a unique gift of channeling the multiple spirits of classic R&B and soul into contemporary terms. $13.99

talk2thTalkdemonic - Eyes at Half Mast CD - Eyes at Half Mast is Talkdemonic's high-water mark. Here the Portland, Oregon duo has created an album that teems with moments of spirited beauty and haunting elegies. There are passages filed with raw dissonance and a sense of loss and memory runs through many of the songs, but the tone of the record is ultimately one of hope - a satisfyingly dark vitality that embraces melodic confidence. Talkdemonic continues to expand the range of emotion that can be evoked without words, and Eyes at Half Mast is the most convincing testament to date as to just what the instrumental duo is capable of. $14.00

dubgabrielthDub Gabriel - Anarchy & Alchemy CD - Dub Gabriel is back! This time he brings together an all-star cast. Recorded over the span of 2 years in New York, Berlin, Paris, Amsterdam, Rio and San Francisco, Anarchy & Alchemy has already generated a massive buzz with such publications as New York Magazine and Pitchfork writing about the album without any solicitation to press, and before the release date. Features Michael Stipe (REM), Dr. Israel, Marc Pistel (Meat Beat Manifesto), Sami Yaffa (New York Dolls), and many more! "His tracks bring to mind moments of Thievery Corporation, Bill Laswell & Brian Eno, but overlays these influences with Gabriel's distinctive flair." - Billboard $12.99

tgdyankeethGrateful Dead - Dead is Better - Yankee T-Shirt - Life is Good? Well, Dead is Better! This edition of the clever t-shirt line features "Yankee Doodle Dandy" skeleton character on the front with Dead is Better text, plus small stealie logo on back with Grateful Dead text on a light blue t-shirt - cerulean, if you will. High-quality 100% cotton pre-shrunk T. XXL adds $2.00. $19.99

govtdvd2thGov't Mule - A Tail of Two Cities (2 DVDs) - Available again! A Tail of Two Cities features complete shows from the last night of the Deja Voodoo tour at the Orpheum in Boston and the first night of the High & Mighty tour at the Riviera Theatre in Chicago. These two shows bridge the rebirth of the band as a quartet. The DVDs contain over 6 hours of performance, interview, and backstage footage with stereo and 5.1 audio mixes included. $24.99

whatitisthVarious Artists - What It Is! Funky Soul and Rare Grooves (4 CDs) - As box sets go, this is one of the most desirable ever made! 91 tracks deep and five hours long, this multi-artist 4-CD set mines rare, renowned, legendary, and little-known grooves from the vaults of Atlantic, Atco, and Warner Bros Records! These hip-shakin' grooves, which count among themselves an alternate mix of "Rock Steady" by Aretha Franklin, come with an 80-page book with plenty more rare content! The smorgasbord of essential music includes oft-ignored and rare tracks from The Meters, Curtis Mayfield, Dr. John, Bobby Byrd, Wilson Pickett, Allen Toussaint, and tons more! $64.98

ribotthMarc Ribot y Los Cubanos Postizos CD - We're celebrating the 10th Anniversary of this criminally overlooked release! Marc Ribot and his Prosthetic Cubans are a jazz-rock band playing music written by (and for) the late Cuban composer and bandleader Arsenio Rodriguez. Ribot is accompanied here by the likes of keyboardist John Medeski and Jazz Passengers bassist Brad Jones, and his playing is alternately angular, fluid, and extremely visceral. Within this Latin-jazz context, Ribot occasionally echoes Carlos Santana, while his percussion-fueled ensemble (anchored by E.J. and Robert J. Rodriguez) plays it hot, hot, hot. Very traditional yet ultimately modern, this imaginative session swings much better than most. $12.99

sproutth_0Sprout Soundtrack CD - There's a little bit of everything here, as long as it's cool! You get everything from fine jazz (Oliver Nelson) to atmospheric instrumentals (Ray Barbee, Tortoise, Tommy Guerrero, Calexico), alternative masters (The Shins, Hope Sandoval, Mojave 3), and of course the funky fresh Jack Johnson-led house band featuring Money Mark, Tommy Guerrero, and Adam Topol! It's a perfect mix to go alongside other Brushfire soundtracks like Thicker Than Water and A Broke Down Melody! $15.99

bboa2thBlind Boys of Alabama - Higher Ground (re-release) - The Blind Boys of Alabama, performing together for over 60 years, are backed on this album by pedal steel phenom Robert Randolph and his Family Band, with the multi-talented Ben Harper guesting on a few songs. $14.98
