Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey - Stay Gold CD - Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey, the Tulsa, Oklahoma institution founded by pianist Brian Haas returns with a new full length album, Stay Gold. The effort further refines JFJO's singular vision that s been dubbed 'Red Dirt Jazz,' sounding equal parts earthy and nimble, pastoral and sweeping, elegant and free. The quartet taps into their birthright, drawing upon 'The Tulsa Sound' born of hometown heroes like JJ Cale, Bob Wills and Leon Russell, while growing these roots from a jazz foundation that's built firmly upon the influence of giants such as Duke Ellington and Thelonious Monk. JFJO recorded the album at acclaimed engineer/musician David Teegarden's Natura Digital Recording Studios just outside of Tulsa. The eight-track effort captures the band's strongest songwriting and most compelling improvisations to date. Jackie Greene - Gone Wanderin' CD & Rusty Nails CD - With an unforced comfort unusual among new, young artists on small indie labels, 21-year-old Jackie Greene offered an impressive batch of above-average Americana roots rock. There's a world-weariness to his songs that might not seem fully earned given his age. But he sounds like he's feeling the emotions authentically enough, with a voice that blends country, rock, folk, and a bit of blues with as much ease as his music does. There's some early Dylan in that mix, and like Dylan, he plays both guitar and harmonica. But he seems like he's having more fun and passion than most budding artists following that path, even if the lyrics talk of hard traveling, dead ends, and hard-luck stories peopled by characters redeemed by their fortitude. In that sense, he can sometimes sound a little like a sweeter-

voiced Bruce Springsteen, though one plugged closer to folk sources than Springsteen is. A cut like "Down in the Valley Woe" gets close to the kind of old-time-rooted folk music you might have heard by some of the better early-'60s folk revivalists and singer/songwriters. Yet when he fills out his music with a bigger ensemble, songs like "Cry Yourself Dry" sound much like vintage material by the Band. Like a lot of artists who have generated ballpark comparisons to the aforementioned musicians, Greene had some work to do to establish himself as an original talent on par with those legends. But this was a good start, more assured and enjoyable than plenty of early 21st century Americana-indie rock artists with bigger reputations.

Quiver - Cup of Gold CD - Hailing from Virginia Beach VA, Quiver is best described as a "Fuse" band. With influences ranging from MMW and Jimmy Smith to Ben Folds Five and Sun Ra Arkestra, it it difficult to pinpoint their sound. Elements of jazz and loose funk intertwine with high energy jams and freestyle blues that usually leaves listeners in a trance. Best known for their live performances, Quiver usually plays to a packed house where you won't find many people sitting down. "...this is truly a pleasant surprise. Straight up jazz/soul/funk/rock. Turbine - Sounds in the Hall (live) CD - Breaking through the proverbial glass ceiling of the improvisational rock scene proves no easy feat for young bands. Burgeoning musicians lumped in the dare we say it, jamband realm, need to successfully marry a deep high-quality catalog of material, whimsical stage presence, diverse writing chops, virtuoso instrumentation, and a calendar containing upwards of 200 shows per year. Correction, breaking through the glass ceiling of the improvisational rock scene is damn near impossible.

But that doesn't mean it doesn't happen, and Brooklyn's Turbine would like to submit their CV. On their first official live release, Sounds in the Hall, as they have over the course of 8 songs checked off every single one of the preceding prerequisites. Comprised of carefully hand-picked selections of both Turbine classics and newer material, Sounds in the Hall covers all the bases, but the clear differentiating factor that sets Turbine far above the masses is their amazing penchant for writing memorable and distinctive songs across a variety of sounds and genres.

Grace Potter & the Nocturnals CD - Grace Potter and the Nocturnals are like a modern-day version of Tina Turner stroking the microphone in a spangled mini-dress while fronting the Rolling Stones circa Sticky Fingers. The proof is there for all to hear on the band's third album for Hollywood Records and marks an artistic breakthrough for a vital young band caught in the act of fulfilling its immense promise. Little wonder that Grace and her cohorts have chosen to title it, directly and emphatically, Grace Potter and the Nocturnals. Album produced by Mark Batson (Jay-Z, Dr Dre, Alicia Keys).

Toots & the Maytals - Flip & Twist CD - The album features Toots singing, R&B ,funk ,gospel ,blues and country in his own inimitable Jamaican style. Toots the inventor of the word "reggae" was voted by Rolling Stone Magazine one of the 100 Greatest Singers of All Time in 2009...when you hear "Flip & Twist" you will see why.

The Flaming Lips And Stardeath And White Dwarfs With Henry Rollins Doing Dark Side Of The Moon CD - The world's most predictably unpredictable band, The Flaming Lips, have teamed up with their Oklahoma City brethren, Stardeath And White Dwarfs to record their own unique take of Pink Floyd's 1973 classic album 'The Dark Side Of The Moon,' under the title of The Flaming Lips and Stardeath And White Dwarfs with Henry Rollins And Peaches. The collaborative project was recorded after several weeks of both bands touring the world together and mutually citing Pink Floyd as one of their favorite bands of all time and 'The Dark Side Of the Moon' as one of their primary influences.

The Black Keys - Brothers CD - Danger Mouse returned to co-produce 'Tighten Up' on 'Brothers,' but for the most part, the duo was on its own, spending ten days at the legendary Muscle Shoals studio in Alabama and coming up with the an even more intensely focused, deeply soulful set that includes a cover of Jerry Butler's 'Never Gonna Give You Up.' The performances are inventive and impassioned: Auerbach extends his vocal range to falsetto on the lead-off track 'Everlasting Light' and 'The Only One'; 'Howlin' For You' opens with a Gary Glitter-style drum riff and the chorus practically invites singing along. The tunes offer a surprising amount of lyrical candor and more than a little dark humor; the grooves alternate between ballsy swagger and bluesy rumination. The album reflects where Auerbach and Carney have been lately, most recently collaborating with a who's who of New York City MC's, including RZA, Q Tip, Mos Def and Raekwon on the 2009 BlakRoc super-session organized by hip-hop impresario and Black Keys fan Damon Dash. They've also pursued projects on their own, Auerbach with his solo 'Keep It Hid' album and tour, Carney with his band Drummer and its debut disc, 'Feels Good Together.' Their maturation didn't happen just in the studio, though. Carney admits, 'Dan and I grew up a lot as individuals and musicians prior to making this album. Our relationship was tested in many ways but at the end of the day, we're brothers, and I think these songs reflect that.'

Warren Haynes Presents the Benefit Concert Vol 3 (2 CDs) - Recorded live at the 13th Annual Christmas Jam in Asheville, Nc on December 21st, 2001 at the Asheville Civic Center. As with each previous benefit, all proceeds from this series of concerts and CD and DVD releases benefit the Habitat For Humanity, and international non-profit organization dedicated to building housing for those in need of shelter.

Johnny Winter - Live at the Fillmore East 1970 CD - The other live album from Johnny Winter And, 1971 s Live Johnny Winter And , has always ranked as one of the high points of Johnny s discography, but we d stack this 66-minute set up against that record (which was in part composed of other Fillmore East performances) any day of the week. In fact, when you hear Johnny and Rick Derringer trading off lead after lead, you may well be reminded of a bluesier, harder-edged Allman Brothers, with Johnny as Duane and Derringer as Dickey Betts with the McCoys rhythm section. In other words, folks, this is some of the most ferocious blues-rock ever laid down on stage.

Perpetual Groove - Honey Cuts EP CD - Honey Cuts presents three out takes from the Heal sessions - Space Paranoids, Cairo, and The Noise. While all three tracks were in contention to be featured on Heal, the band ultimately decided the tracks were better left off the release as they did not "fit" the overall timeless quality of the compositions contained within Heal. All three tracks feature a subtle infusion of the live show, including loops and effects that were absent from the songs released on the full album. The title of the EP is taken from the song "Honey Cuts" which is actually featured on Heal.

Sim Redmond Band - Open the Door CD - Since their inception over ten years ago, the Sim Redmond Band has been steadily on the rise, forging new ground in roots music. Traveling around the globe, playing with the likes of moe., the Neville Brothers, the Wailers, Jimmy Cliff, and Habib Koite, in some of the most beautiful venues in the U.S. and Japan, the world has taken notice. SRB's unique blend of roots-rock, Afro-Carribean, and reggae music continues to spread like wild fire. Making his latest record, Between Motion and Rest, was so much fun for Eric, as he has been friends with this group of musicians for many years. The title of this album, Between Motion and Rest was inspired and based off the original song LUCKY LUCKY, by Peter Joseph Burtt. Peter is a very good friend of Eric's, and one of his favorite musicians and songwriters. The song really resonated with Eric, and they couldn't wait to record it! This track (and the rest of the record) features another one of his good friends and life long musical companions, Jake Brown. They grew up playing music together, along with Adam Theis and Peter Smith, two of the other players on this session. This album also features tracks with some of Eric's other long time friends Ivan Neville, Chris Arenas and Thomas Johnson from New Orleans, and Jacksonville's finest, Joe Cohen.

Dickey Betts - Altanta's Burning Down/Great Southern CD - Digitally remastered two-fer containing a pair of albums from the Southern Rock legend on one disc: Dickey Betts & Great Southern (1977) and Atlanta's Burning Down (1978). With the revived interest is all things "Southern" and the fast expanding "Jam Band" scene this timely re-issue illustrates what a superb guitarist Betts is. He has just announced that he has retired from the road after all these years and these two albums remain fine testament to the mans outstanding guitar skills. 15 tracks.

moe. - Smash Hits Vol 1 CD - This new moe. album features: Spine of a Dog, Yodelittle, Saint Augustine, Mexico, Rebubula, Buster, Captain America, Okayalright, Tailspin, and first ever studio recording of Seat of my Pants. From ideas brewed in Buffalo basements and lyrics conjured up along miles of the lower 48, to sounds bouncing off trees from a stage in the Sierra Nevada, these 10 songs dot the map of the 20 years of music in the making for moe. Reams of manuscript paper littered the floor, everyone wore ear plugs, and all I could think was "What the hell am I doing?" . We didn't know if we would ever repeat the performance, so recorded it for posterity... Surely only an idiot would actually release their first ever gig though, right? Bootsy Collins - The Official Bootlegged Bootsy CD - Bootsy Collins goes back to some of his earlier classic's and does a face lift, by surgically removing body fat and re sculpting sounds with modern day Pro-Fools and Lip-o-Suction=fancy organ, lyric's and raps, by his New Artists, with names like: DJizzle, iCandi, ZionPlanet10, Thee-Ram-Jam, Silly Hands of Tobotius the Master Wax Manipulator, but then Buckethead shows up on a re-make, along with MC-Danny Ray from the James Brown cape master himself. New Riders of the Purple Sage - Where I Come From CD - An American psychedelic classic featuring songs written with Grateful Dead lyricist Robert Hunter. Woodstock Records has just released the first studio CD in over 20 years by The New Riders of the Purple Sage. This legendary band's renaissance began four years ago and continues today. The CD, "Where I Come From" features 12 new songs of which seven were written by David Nelson and Grateful Dead lyricist Robert Hunter. Also included are "Carl Perkins Wears The Crown", an ode to the rockabilly king.Two live show favorites "Higher" and "Olivia Rose" are on here as well as a cover of "Minglewood Blues." Featuring art work by famed San Francisco artist Stanley Mouse, "Where I Come From" is psychedelic Americana at its finest. $15.98

Ween - All Request Live CD - All Request Live features tracks performed live, in-studio by Ween and their touring band as part of a web radio broadcast, playing songs selected by fans on the band's message board. Among the tracks performed are all three officially released parts of "The Stallion" (along with the previously unreleased parts four and five), fan-favorites "Awesome Sound" and "Demon Sweat", a slightly expanded version of the drug-addled skit "Pollo Asado", and a nearly six minute long take on the band's infamously rejected Pizza Hut jingle "Where'd the Cheese Go?" $15.98

Fillmore: The Last Days DVD - Legendary rock impresario Bill Graham closed the Fillmore West in early summer 1971 with five nights of all-star concerts, the last curtain going down on July 4. The storied San Francisco venue had become an institution, an integral part of the West Coast music scene of the '60s and, now, an essential element of the mythology of rock 'n' roll. Always the showman, Graham made sure the Fillmore West was sent off in a blaze of glory, spotlighting bands - including the Grateful Dead and Santana-that rose to fame at the hall. The madness leading up to the shows and the concerts themselves were filmed for FILLMORE: THE LAST DAYS, a gritty, behind-the-scenes look at a fascinating moment in rock history and a showcase for great performances by iconic artists who epitomized 'the San Francisco Sound.' Woodstock - Original Soundtrack & More (2 CDs) - Originally released in 1970 as a triple-LP, MUSIC FROM THE ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK AND MORE: WOODSTOCK topped Billboard's pop albums chart for four weeks, and was a Top 20 R&B album as well. Derek Trucks Band - Already Free CD - Nearly a year in the making and brimming with a newfound focus on original material, Already Free is The Derek Trucks Band's natural evolution as they move forward integrating influences that span a variety of musical genres. Known for their blues roots, the group takes this album well beyond blues to incorporate the larger sounds of rock & soul. Already Free, features a stirring cover of Bob Dylan's Down In The Flood as well as the new songs, Down Don't Bother Me and Get What You Deserve. Guest appearances on the album include vocals from Susan Tedeschi and Doyle Bramhall II. $16.97

The Station - Speed of Sound - Live at Marley's (2 CDs) - The Station balances its jams on a metallic edge, adds a dash of funky machismo and even summons its Southern-rock roots to provide a fine introduction for new listeners. Despite a running time of nearly two-and-a-half hours -- all but two of these 12 songs clock in at longer than 10 minutes -- Speed of Sound remains a far-from-laborious listen. The Station jams creatively while still focusing on the songs' melodies, structure and overall effect. Highlights include Illuminator, which boasts jaw-dropping guitar and sax solos, and the heartland anthem Midwest Moonshine. But, really, cue up just about any of these tunes, push 'play' and let your opinion of jam bands likely be altered for the better. - Michael Popke, Sea of Tranquility.org $16

Mark 0'Connor's Hot Swing Trio CD - Acoustic, progressive violin and Django-style guitar jazz played by Mark O'Connor and his Hot Swing Trio featuring Frank Vignola and Jon Burr. Writing about the live concert at which this recording was made, respected critic Terry Teachout, wrote for the Washington Post, "what I find most exciting about the Hot Swing Trio is the collective willingness of its members to knock down the artificial boundaries between seemingly different musical idioms. I can't wait to hear the CD that comes out of these concerts." $15.99

Albert Collins - Cold Tremors (2 live CDs) - Collins plays his fingers raw, coaxing more diversity and tasteful licks out of his guitar than you'll hear on most of his studio recordings. The first disc features a much-recommended live album, recorded at the infamous El Mocambo in Toronto. The second features a 1969 gig Collins recorded at the Fillmore in San Francisco, when he served as an opening act for the Allman Brothers. $22.98
