Whitewater RambleWhitewater Ramble - Covering Some Territory: Live from the Big Sky Vol 2 CD Limited Edition - Described as "High-Octane Rocky Mountain DanceGrass", WhiteWater Ramble uses a simple recipe to craft it's sound: start with bluegrass instrumentation, add drums, and finish with a boundary-less approach to grassing-up everything from disco house grooves to roots and Americana. The Colorado-bred quintet combines the elements of Mandolin, Fiddle, Acoustic Guitar, Upright Bass, Drums and Vocals to explore the musical boundaries of multiple genres to fuel their own mixture of original music and innovative cover song interpretations. Whether playing an intimate encore, acoustic and unplugged in the crowd, or surfing on top of the upright bass, WhiteWater Ramble delivers a powerful and memorable live performance.

Also now in stock: Whitewater Ramble - Live from the Big Sky CD, Whitewater Ramble - All Night Drive CD

Sol Driven TrainSol Driven Train - Watermelon CD - Sol Driven Train's music weaves through genres like images in a Tom Robbins paragraph. The band's sonic schizophrenia absorbs songwriting influences like John Prine and Paul Simon, afrocaribbean rhythmic explorations, and funky New Orleans-style brass into earnest songs of life, love, loss, and long johns. The versatile 5-piece band, based in Charleston, SC, features rotating lead vocalists, and multi-instrumental talent spread across horns, strings, and percussion. Combining rich varieties of American pop and folk music into their own port-town sound, Sol Driven Train has carved out a unique musical identity within the burgeoning roots music scene.

Del McCoury & David GrismanDel McCoury and David Grisman - Del & Dawg CD - David Grisman met Del McCoury at the first show Del ever played (on banjo) with Bill Monroe in the spring of 1963 at New York University in Greenwich Village. Three years later, Del & Dawg played their first gig together in Troy, NY at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. They both celebrated the arrival of first-born sons, Monroe Grisman and Ronnie McCoury, within a month of each other.

This unique collection of bluegrass classics, made at two Dawg studio jam sessions in the 1990s, celebrates the nearly 50-year bluegrass friendship that these two legendary musicians have shared.

Sol Driven TrainSol Driven Train - Underdog CD - This 10-song collection strives to capture the energy of this Charleston, SC band's dynamic live show while serving as a culmination of their years together on the road and in the studio. The result is Sol Driven Train's most concise and song-oriented album to date. Averaging 150 live dates per year, Sol Driven Train will support the release of Underdog with a heavy 2013 schedule of festival, club, and radio appearances.

Fully funded with fan support through Kickstarter and recorded at Charleston Sound, Underdog features a cast of Charleston guest musicians including 2012 American Idol finalist Elise Testone. The album explores the diverse components of sounds found in American roots music; from the gritty guitar rock licks of the opening title track, and the blues-tinged swing of "Changed Mind" and "I Do Declare," to the lightheared, observational lyrics laden with big brass hooks of "Guest List," "Fuego Fuego, and "Lady from Chiang Mai."

Underdog is laced with consistent themes of "striving for balance within ourselves and our relationships at home," says co-frontman and guitarist Joel Timmons. "The pursuit of our collective musical dreams and the need to cultivate healthy relationships and lifestyles at home are at the heart of many of the songs on Underdog. Struggle, spiritual growth, love, and longing are all intertwined and influenced the writing on this new album. We're proud of the result of these challenges and we hope to inspire the underdog within every listener."

Ziggy Marley liveZiggy Marley - In Concert CD - Recorded live on Ziggy's 2012 World Tour, Ziggy Marley In Concert captures the excitement of his shows and the connection to his audiences that has made Ziggy Marley one of the most beloved artists in the world. Filled with passionate performances, exceptional musicianship, and fan favorites like "Tomorrow People" and "Love Is My Religion," Ziggy Marley In Concert is the next best thing to being there! His band includes legendary drummer Santa Davis (Peter Tosh, Jimmy Cliff, Carlos Santana), lead guitarist Takeshi Akimoto, guitarist and backing vocalist Beezy Coleman, bassist Pablo Stennet, keyboard players Michael Hyde and George Hughes, percussionist Angel Roche, and backing vocalist Tracy Hazzard.

LEE:
Favorite shows: BIG Something Costume Ball 10/27/2012 - Lincoln Theatre - Raleigh, NC.  I saw this band more than any other in 2012 and this performance was one of the many highlights. Their set had an outer space theme. The band was wearing astronaut suits, stage was decorated like a spaceship, visuals and audio samples all played on the theme throughout the show. They busted out new covers to complement the theme like Intergalactic (Beastie Boys), Robot Rock (Daft Punk), Cosmic Girl (Jamiroquai) & Subterranean Homesick Alien (Radiohead).  Hear a recording here: http://archive.org/details/bs2012-10-27.bryonsos

Jomeokee Music & Arts Festival 2012

Jomeokee Music & Arts Festival 2012
The first annual Jomeokee festival was held at one of the most beautiful venues I've been to in North Carolina.

The festival was nestled within the quaint little Jomeokee campground near Pinnacle, NC with stunning views of Pilot Mountain. Pilot Mountain is a metamorphic quartzite monadnock (an isolated rock that rises abruptly from a gently sloping or virtually level surrounding plain) which rises to a peak of about 2,500 feet; it is one of the most distinctive natural features in the state and is a remnant of an ancient chain of mountains called the Saura Mountains.

New Releases:

Jerry Douglas - TravelerJerry Douglass - Traveler CD - The phrase living legend may be overused, but in the case of the master Dobro guitarist Jerry Douglas, it s also an understatement. In addition to his first-call status as a Nashville recording icon, hes adored by rock musicians like Paul Simon, Elvis Costello, James Taylor, and John Fogerty, all of whom have featured him on tours. Jerry is a 13-time GrammyA(c) winner and the long-time featured soloist with the multi-platinum Alison Krauss and Union Station. And he was an NEA Heritage Foundation grant winner in 2004.

With Traveler, Jerry has finally recorded an album that will even further elevate his already impressive stature from super-sideman to a bona fide front-rank creator of musical Americana. Produced by Russ Titelman (Eric Clapton, Paul Simon, James Taylor, Ry Cooder, Little Feat, etc.), and recorded in New Orleans, Nashville, and London, this ambitious collection of vocals and instrumentals enlists a truly awesome cast of characters in support of an epic vision that combines Country/Bluegrass, R&B, and even a ballad with roots in the British Isles (Paul Simons The Boxer performed with Mumford & Sons and the song s composer.) Other highlights include two New Orleans classics--- Something You Got, with vocals and guitar by Eric Clapton; and High Blood Pressure, with vocals by Keb Mo and a gang of the Crescent City s finest including Dr. John.

Coming Soon:

Keller Williams - Pick CDKeller Williams with the Travelin' McCourys - Pick CD - For the brand new recording Pick, singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Keller Williams teams up with Nashville's beloved bluegrass family The Travelin' McCourys. As revered and successful as each act is in their own right, Pick is a classic case of the whole being greater than the sum of its parts. Recorded at Music City's famed Butcher Shoppe studios, the album's 12 songs - a mix of originals and covers - put a unique twist on Americana music's long storytelling tradition, and the impeccable musicianship displayed on Pick captures all the heart and heartache of the bluegrass genre. But the songs don't stop there. Williams' unconventional songwriting takes on unsuspecting weight when backed by The Travelin' McCourys' emotive tones. Inspired by Keller's fearless creativity, the McCourys' flawless playing gets depth. Keller Williams with The Travelin' McCourys: It's a perfect, albeit unexpected fit.

Grace Potter CDGrace Potter & the Nocturnals - The Lion The Beast The Beat CD - The Lion The Beast The Beat is Grace Potter & The Nocturnals fourth studio album for Hollywood Records. The musically powerful and conceptually dazzling work was produced by Jim Scott (Tom Petty, Wilco, the Tedeschi Trucks Band s 2012 Grammy winner Revelator) and Potter at Scott s studio PLYRZ in Santa Clarita, CA, with the exception of Loneliest Soul, which was produced by Dan Auerbach (The Black Keys), written by Auerbach and Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, and engineered by Collin Dupuis at Easy Eye Sounds in Nashville, TN. David Campbell (Beck, My Morning Jacket, Jackson Browne) arranged and conducted the strings on the album. The album was mixed by fellow Vermonter and Grammy award winner Rich Costey (Foo Fighters, TV on the Radio, Bruce Springsteen s Wrecking Ball) and mastered by Grammy award winner Bob Ludwig (David Bowie, Rolling Stones, Radiohead, Foo Fighters). The first single from The Lion The Beast The Beat is Never Go Back, written by Dan Auerbach and Grace Potter & The Nocturnals.

New Additions:

String Cheese Incident - Trick or TreatString Cheese Incident - Trick or Treat (2 live CDs) - The timing is fitting, considering the 2CD set was culled from a variety of epic SCI "Hulaween" shows. From Philadelphia's Electric Factory (1999), Portland, Maine's State Theatre (2000), NYC's Theatre at Madison Square Garden (2001), Sin City's Cox Pavillion (2003) and the Exhibition Center @ Alliant Energy Center in Madison, Wisconsin (2004) - Trick or Treat journeys through the years to re-visit some of the band's most classic Incidents from Halloweens past. This Best Of set offers seven of SCI's famous Halloween cover sets including String Cheese performing songs by such artists as the Beatles, KC & The Sunshine Band, Phish, Nelly and many others. Features brand new original artwork from Michael Everett. $18.98

Gov't Mule - By a Thread CDGov't Mule - By A Thread CD - A wildly creative and fearsomely talented rock band lauded by Rolling Stone for successfully bringing the classic power-trio sound of Cream and the Jimi Hendrix Experience into the 21st Century has completed work on By A Thread - their first studio album in 3 years.

Recorded largely at Willie Nelson's Pedernales Studio in 2009, the album s origins are apparent from the first track, Broke Down On The Brazos, named after the nearby river, with a deep Texas stomp for the backbeat and featuring the trademark guitar-work of ZZ Top founder Billy Gibbons. $14.98

Bassnectar - Cozza Frenzy CDBassnectar - Cozza Frenzy CD - Bassnectar's own label Amorphous Music teams up with Child's Play Records to unleash Cozza Frenzy, an amalgamation of sound that combines dubstep, electro, hip hop, and all styles of dirty digital bass-heavy music and smashes it all into a collision of wobbling, intense basslines, and hypnotic hide-and-seek adventures. A work 3 years in the making, this rich and eclectic collection of 15 songs features collaborations with artists such as Fever Ray, Zumbi of Zion I, Mr. Projectile, and Capital J. $14.98

Garage A Trois - Power PatriotGarage A Trois - Power Patriot CD
- Garage A Trois is a collaboration between four of the most visionary improvisers of the time: Skerik on saxophones, Mike Dillon on vibes, Marco Benevento on keyboards and Stanton Moore on drums. And while improvisation is at the heart of what this quartet has built its reputation on at their legendary New Orleans Jazzfest sets and rare, but in demand, club tours, it's the intricate sonic collages, tightly orchestrated arrangements and positively modern approach to instrumental songwriting that's at the heart of their latest album, Power Patriot. $13.98

Squirrel Nut Zippers - Lost at Sea CDSquirrel Nut Zippers - Lost at Sea (live) CD - Our new live record "Lost At Sea" is now free to roam amongst you in your living rooms and places of leisure. "Lost At Sea" heralds in our divined return from the depths. Poseidon could not keep us pinned beneath the waves. The Cyclops could not sequester us in his cave for devouring. Lo, the Sirens of the Night Clubs have led us back home to you. And what a handsome audience you are! $13.98

Blind Boys of Alabama - Duets CDBlind Boys of Alabama - Duets CD
- The Blind Boys have frequently been invited to appear on other great artists' albums, resulting in a number of performances that have been collected into Duets. Their first-ever duets collection includes songs with Ben Harper, Bonnie Raitt, Randy Travis, Lou Reed, Solomon Burke, Susan Tedeschi and Asleep at the Wheel. In addition, it features three new recordings with Lou Reed, blues legend John Hammond, and Jamaican legend Toots Hibbert of Toots & The Maytals. The diverse group of artists collaborating on Duets reflects the expansive appeal of the group as well as the sweeping reverence for their talent. This new album follows their Grammy and Dove Award-winning CD Down in New Orleans. $17.98

Del McCoury - Family Circle CDDel McCoury Band - Family Circle CD - The band's first non-gospel studio album since 2005's Grammy winning "The Company We Keep" shows that somehow, Del McCoury keeps getting better with age. This release features the same top notch picking and singing you expect, but also shows the band continues to grow and evolve with some song selections and arrangements that may surprise you. There are some covers--as the band has come to be known for over the years--with tunes formerly recorded by Slim Whitman, Mark Knopfler, and Solomon Burke, but probably most surprising is Jerry Lee Lewis' "Break Up" on which the band uses their acoustic instruments to mimic The Killer's piano sounds. There are also some more traditional numbers and a gospel quartet that shows the McCourys as a band don't get enough credit for their vocal ability. All the songs are backed by the slickest picking in the land, and the combination makes for what some are already saying is the best recording the Del McCoury Band has ever made. $14.98

Sam Bush - Circles Around Me CDSam Bush- Circles Around Me CD - Sam Bush's eighth solo album. 14-song set includes appearances by Del McCoury, Edgar Meyer, Jerry Douglas and, thanks to the discovery of an old demo, New Grass Revival co-founder Courtney Johnson (posthumously). The album also employs Bush's band: Scott Vestal, Stephen Mougin, Byron House and Chris Brown. $17.98

Lubriphonic - Soul Solution CDLubriphonic - Soul Solution CD - Lubriphonic is one of the most exciting bands to emerge from Chicago in ages, incorporating elements of funk, hard soul, and rock into a live show that leaves audiences breathless. With a starring cast of six musicians (including a full horn section), Lubriphonic will be touring throughout the Midwest and West this summer, including two slots at both High Sierra Music & The Telluride Blues & Brews Festivals. They have recently opened for acts as diverse as George Clinton & P-Funk, Derek Trucks, Porter, Batiste & Stoltz w/ Kyle Hollingsworth, Pangea w/ Michael Kang, Poi Dog Pondering, Freddy Jones Band and the Greyboy Allstars. Longtime crowd favorites from Jack's catalog are interwoven with passages from some of Jack's own favorite songs (Do You Remember segues into a verse from Jimi Hendrix's "Remember"; Jack's "The Horizon Has Been Defeated" blends into Paul Simon's "Mother and Child Reunion" in front of a mainstage headlining crowd at Bonnaroo, and "Bubble Toes" dips into the Charles Wright classic "Express Yourself"). Dickey Betts is not unknown to those who are familiar with American rock music. He was one of the original members of the Allman Brothers Band and formed his own band Great Southern in 1976. Nowadays, Dickey Betts and Great Southern are considered to be one of the most important and influental southern rock bands of all time. $24.97
