Steely Dan - Bristow, VA 1996 CD

Having reformed originally in 1993, following the release of Donald Fagen's second solo album, Kamakiriad, which Walter Becker produced, the pair toured to promote the album. Inevitably they performed numerous Steely Dan classics interspersed with Fagen's new songs; had they not it's unlikely the duo would have got out alive. The tour proved so successful that MCA records, the following year, released Citizen Steely Dan, a four-CD box set containing the band's entire catalogue plus four tracks previously unavailable on album. Becker and Fagen subsequently went back on the road to promote the compilation, and in '95 released the live CD Alive In America, compiled from tracks recorded during 1993 and 1994 shows. By now fans were demanding more and more live performances from their heroes, and in 1996 Steely Dan embarked on their most ambitious jaunt yet, the Art Crimes Tour, which spanned the globe. On 21st July '96, the band played the Nissan Pavilion in Bristow, Virginia, an outdoor amphitheatre with space for 25,000 attendees, 35 miles west of Washington DC. Performing a dazzling selection of tracks from the pair's vast catalogue, this concert has often been cited as Dan's finest ever show. Fortunately, the whole thing was recorded for FM broadcast, and is now available in quite superb audio quality for the first time on this CD release.
