Santana - Broadcast Archives (3CD)

Formed in San Francisco in 1966 by Mexican-American guitarist and songwriter Carlos Santana, Santana the group has undergone multiple recording and performing line-ups in its history, with Carlos the only consistent member. Santana had early success with their appearance at Woodstock in 1969, and with their first three albums, Santana (1969), Abraxas (1970), and Santana III (1971). Santana is one of the best-selling groups of all time with 43.5 million certified albums sold in the US, and an estimated 100 million sold worldwide. Its discography includes 25 studio albums, 14 of which reached the US top 10. In 1998, the original line-up of Santana, Rolie, Carabello, Shreve, Brown, and Areas was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. In 2000, the band won six Grammy Awards in one night - a record which tied them with Michael Jackson - and three Latin Grammies. In recognition and celebration of Santana's ongoing success and longevity comes this triple disc set of rare live appearances, featuring as it does a triumvirate of some of the band's finest shows across their staggering career to date. First up, on DISC ONE, the group's extraordinary 1975 concert recorded for live FM Radio broadcast from The Rynearson Stadium, in Ypsilanti, MI, on 25th May 1975 is included in its entirety. Next, on DISC TWO, comes their Independence Day concert from The Cape Cod Coliseum, in South Yarmouth, MA, recorded 4th July 1981. To conclude this superb collection, DISC THREE features Santana's set recorded at the Bill Graham Tribute Concert in Golden Gate Park, San Francisco, during which they performed alongside The Grateful Dead, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, and numerous others, in memory of then recently departed concert impresario, who did so much to promote the bands featured that day.
