New Releases

Whitewater Ramble - Roots & GrooveWhitewater Ramble - Roots & Groove CD - The band has welcomed back Tim Carbone of Railroad Earth as producer for the second time. Carbone worked with the band on their genre-bending debut release All Night Drive in 2010.

The band will celebrate the release with an intimate listening party at Avogadro's Number in Ft. Collins on 3/26/13 sponsored by KRFC 88.9 FM. The album will play in it's entirety and the band will perform several stripped down tunes including the new single "Mr. Banker Man." In March and April, the band will strike out on a Roots & Groove tour across Colorado, Idaho, Oregon, Montana, California and Wyoming including a special Colorado release show at Wildflower Pavilion on 3/29/13. Full tour dates will be announced soon.

"This release marks significant growth as a band from our debut album to our sophomore release," says Patrick Sites (mandolin, vocals). "Everything from songwriting, to vocal and harmonies to instrumentation have taken major leaps ahead. All Night Drive was a lot of jams, hype, fast tempos, but lacking on the song side of things. We've now settled into a blend of what we call "Roots & Groove." Our roots in bluegrass and Americana are still very strong and we really have some meaningful songs with messages and things we believe and feel, but the grooves are also a key element of these songs and necessary to keep feet moving and the dance party aspect, it's a great blend. 2013 will be the biggest and best year this band has seen, with a management team behind us and new and mature record to put in people's hands, the band is poised and ready to make the leap into the national festival scene."

Coming Soon

Les RacquetLes Racquet - Whale Hail CD - Les Racquet is an indie rock power trio with three-part vocal harmonies and virtuosic musicianship. This album was recorded as a retrospective representation of the first year as a touring band, from the gypsy life style and living out of a suitcase, to the serene moments that remind us of our humanistic spirituality, and for all the celebrations and hardships. For that, we stand up and proclaim, "Whale Hail!"

Hackensaw Boys - For the Love of a FriendHackensaw Boys - For the Love of a Friend CD - Kinderdijk, Netherlands - On February 15th, 2012, Rene Verkerk was killed while working on the scoop-wheel of his number six windmill. In the weeks following his death, friends and family gathered round and found the Hackensaw Boys were a mutual passion and comfort. Rene was a huge fan of theirs and permeated most of his relationships with their music. In March 2012, Rene's friends contacted the band and asked if they would play in celebration of their fallen brother. The Hackensaw Boys proudly accepted.

On May 24th, 2012, over 200 friends gathered in Cafe De Klok, the local pub, for Rene's celebration. From this memorial show, comes Hackensaw Boys - For the Love of a Friend, a 16 track CD including Keep It Simple and Can't Catch Me, along with a 35 minute bonus DVD documenting the story, as well as the show.

Dark Water RisingDark Water Rising - Grace & Grit CD -Led by Charly Lowry (lead singer/rhythm guitar - Semi Finalist on American Idol 2004), Aaron Locklear (keys/guitar/bass), Corey Locklear (lead guitar/cello/bass), and Shay Jones (drums), the band works to harness the sounds of Soul, Rock, Country, and R&B. Lyrically, Dark Water Rising explores all themes of life, whether it is love, heartbreak, sacrifice, celebration, despair, or pain; all the while expressing their sentiment on issues affecting Native American communities.

Lotus - Build CDLotus - Build CD - Built on a foundation of beats evoking vinyl breaks, house and big-beat, the latest album from Lotus is a funky dance party from start to finish. The ten tracks on Build showcase live drums, guitar, organ, and horns that come drenched in classic analog luxuriance, with electronic elements peppered throughout. This is the sound of a band that has spent years rocking live crowds distilled to a strong studio concentrate of body-moving beats and muscular melodies.

“This album was recorded live to analog tape in studios in Philadelphia and St. Louis. We used live drums, guitar, bass, Hammond organ, upright piano, analog synths, live percussion, and live horns from the group Rubblebucket, then peppered in electronic elements. The project was mixed through an analog process to give it a deep richness. These songs were written over the course of the past 2 years and road-tested across the country.

I think this our tightest and best sounding album yet. The songs have a largeness that match Lotus move from clubs into premier venues around the country.” – Luke Miller

Jerry Garcia Band CDsJerry Garcia Band - Capital Theatre 3/1/80 (3CDs) - The first release from the newly-launched Garcia Live series features a recording from the historic Capitol Theatre in Passaic, New Jersey on March 1, 1980. The band performed an early and a late show on this evening, as was common at the time. The shows were originally multi-tracked on a 24-track mobile rig for WNEW's broadcast of the early show.

The band, which included Garcia on guitar and vocals, partner in crime John Kahn on bass, Ozzie Ahlers on Keys and Johnny de Foncesca on drums at the time, was wrapping up a three-week East Coast run with the performances on this evening. Highlights including a take on the Jimmie Rodgers penned rave-up, "That's All Right," an early show encore of "Deal" and a rollicking version of "That's What Love Will Make You Do" show Jerry and the band loose and fluid at the end of the tour.

New Releases:

The Ragbirds - Travellin' Machine CDThe Ragbirds - Travellin' Machine CD - After a highly successful 2011 The Ragbirds are kicking off a new year with the release of their 4th studio effort. In this exciting mew album the band has seamlessly blended a wide palette of musical genres into a fresh and cohesive 10-track package that is full of life and energy. It's rare to stumble upon a band that brings as much joy and creative flare to their music as the Ragbirds. Led by the energetic front woman, Erin Zindle, the band tastefully unites multi-cultural rhythms with a roots rock flavor that is as captivating and flirty, as it is smart. A bright and diverse addition to any music collection, the album provides charming, danceable songs that can be enjoyed by listeners of all ages.

Ten Toes UpTen Toes Up - Sleeping Lion CD - For the third studio album, Ten Toes Up enlisted the help of South Carolina's Danielle Howle to occupy the producer's chair. Sleeping Lion puts forth an edgier sound than the previous efforts, but the groove stays present, and the influences remain diverse. Lyrics, and arrangements, are more polished here, which was illustrated by the amount of airplay that was generated by singles "Carolina Mess," "Set Me on Fire," and "This Fortune is Easy." WYAV 104.1 DJ, Scott Mann, says "Sleeping Lion is exactly what a great rock album should be. It's diverse, it sounds great loud, and the songs are played with skill!" The Surge Magazine's Paul Grimshaw says " The band embodies the Carolina sound- a mix of Black Crowes, Widespread Panic, and Allman Brothers Band- but, ultimately, all Ten Toes Up!"

Greensky Bluegrss - handguns CDGreensky Bluegass - Handguns CD - Greensky Bluegrass' 4th studio release, recorded in Jan. 2011, at Glenn Brown Productions in Lansing, MI. Using vintage analog gear, this record was captured on the same mixing console that produced, "Free Bird", and dozens of other mega-hits in Muscle Shoals, AL.

The Green CDThe Green - Ways & Means CD - Ways & Means is the amazing follow-up to the Green's award-winning debut album. Produced by the band itself, it features 14 songs demonstrating the full-range of this talented band's skills. From dancehall ("Decisions") to lovers rock ("She Was The Best") to classic roots ("Keep On") to unclassifiable genre-busting styles ("Good Vibration"), this album covers a lot of musical ground and is destined to be in the conversation for Reggae Album of the Year.

Coming Soon:

moe.moe. - What Happened to the La Las - After twenty years together and nine studio albums, one might think moe. had pretty much done it all. Yet the famously independent-minded jam band is reaching for new ground on its latest project, What Happened To The LA LAs.

To begin with, moe. has signed with Sugar Hill Records, the band's first label sojourn in nearly a decade. The group also chose to work with an outside producer for the first time since 1998's Tin Cans & Car Tires, with John Travis (Kid Rock, Social Distortion, No Doubt) getting the call.

What Happened To The LA LAs features 10 tracks of compact melodies, each textured by moe.'s signature rock riffs and flourishes, and backed by a roller coaster ride of pulsing drums. It's that pure moe. sound which the band's ardent fans -- affectionately dubbed moe.rons -- have come to love over the band's decades of industrious touring.

Rodrigo y GabriellaRodrigo y Gabriela and C.U.B.A. - Area 52 CD+DVD - Area 52 contains nine of Rod and Gab's favorite songs from their own catalogue re-arranged and re-configured for a 13-piece Cuban orchestra comprised of some of Havana's finest young players, collectively known as C.U.B.A. This two-disc set includes a 30-minute 'making-of' documentary on DVD.

With career sales in excess of 1.2 million albums, blockbuster movie scores, sell out world tours that span London to Los Angeles, Paris to Tokyo and Dublin to Sydney, and not forgetting the love and respect of fellow musicians like Metallica, Rage Against The Machine, Al Di Meola and L Shankar, Rodrigo y Gabriela have worked hard to reach Area 52.

Comprised of 11 tracks, 9 originals and 2 covers, "Bass" documents Keller's exploration of creamy bass lines and groovy rocksteady beats mixed with his own unique style and vision.

And now a word from Keller:
Greetings Music Lovers. Thank you for partaking in yet another one of my self-indulgent musical journeys. In my never ending quest to do something different, I present you my first release containing no guitar. Not a single guitar was used in the making of this record. To me, that's different. And that's what I'm going for.

This record has no looping. This is a document of songs and the overall, open air, spacious vibe created by this trio we call Kdubalicious. I am honored to be joined by musical genius Jay Starling on keys, and the one-drop master Mark D on drums. The record was recorded, mixed and co-produced by recording god Jeff Covert at Wally Cleavers in Fredericksburg, Virginia during the summer of 2011.
