Option 22 - The Change

Change – To make or become different (verb). It’s a rarity for an album to have songs with vast differences in tone, instrumentation, method, tempo and direction without sounding like a CD compilation created by an avid fan. Option 22 has found a way to compile eleven diverse magnificent tracks while maintaining the consistent message and flow that an album should. This is a feat that deserves ample recognition. When you listen to the eleven tracks on Option 22’s new album, The Change, you will come to realize not only the musical reasoning behind the title, but the ever so powerful transcendent message throughout – a message that is asking, challenging us to actively pursue changing ourselves and the world for the better.

New Releases

Option 22Option 22 - The Change CD - Option 22 is an Americana/Worldbeat ensemble with a revolutionary vibe. Dubbed by one listener a “new age jam band,” their broad style spans from newgrass to space-folk to roots-rock world funk and points in between. "They are channels for the music, allowing it to flow through them and deliver it to whomever is present along with messages of hope, love and healing.  On the fly collaborative dynamics, rhythmic muscle and thematic inventions shower you with sound that is sure to lift your vibration, allowing you to groove freely and transcend."

Robert Walter's 20th CongressThe Dutch Woodstock 1970 (2 CD/DVD) - This line-up features rock royalty including Tyrannosaurus Rex, The Byrds, Santana, Jefferson Airplane, and the headlining Pink Floyd from 1970's Kralingen Music Festival. Containing footage that wasn't in the original film, this 2CD 1DVD set features live material from Pink Floyd, and some immeasurably rare artifacts from folk such as T-Rex, Dr John, Family and The Byrds and others! The film portion, also known as Stamping Ground, has never been out on DVD.

Bob MarleyBob Marley & the Wailers - Legend Remixed CD - For the first time, BOB MARLEY AND THE WAILERS' iconic 1984 album, LEGEND, is re-imagined for LEGEND REMIXED, an inspired new spin on the reggae classic. LEGEND's 16 tracks have been remixed by top DJs/producers. Robert Randolph & the Family BandRobert Randolph & The Family Band - Lickety Split CD - When Robert Randolph talks about his new album, Lickety Split, a few words come up over and over—"joy," "freedom," "energy." Which is no surprise, really, because those are the same things that immediately spring into a listener's mind when these twelve tracks from the virtuoso pedal steel guitarist and his longtime accompanists, the Family Band, explode out of the speakers.

"My thing is really upbeat, uptempo, with great guitar riffs," says Randolph, summarizing his musical ambitions, "but also catchy choruses and lyrics that someday will make this music into classic tunes."

Last Week:

Robert Walter's 20th CongressRobert Walter's 20th Congress - Get Thy Bearings CD - Robert Walter performs all his own stunts. For 20 years, the San Diego native has been pulling drawbars and pushing the limits of the Hammond B3 organ. As a founding member of the Greyboy Allstars, he helped usher in the funk-jazz renaissance of the early '90s and has continued to keep one hand comping chords in the instrument's funky past, while the other explores ever-new melodic terrain. His long-standing project, Robert Walter's 20th Congress, returns with, Get Thy Bearings, via The Royal Potato Family. It was a recent move from New Orleans to Los Angeles that jump-started the 20th Congress who hadn't recorded a studio album in ten years. The nine-track effort presents Walter's organ, piano, Rhodes and synthesizer driving an all-star line-up rounded out by guitarist/bassist Elgin Park, drummer Aaron Redfield, sax players Karl Denson and Cochemea Gastelum, and percussionist Chuck Prada.

Moon HoochMoon Hooch - Moon Hooch CD - The reaction is instantaneous. It doesn't even matter when they're the opening act no one in the room has heard before -- as soon as Moon Hooch starts playing, it's as if the room becomes a living, surging, pulsing thing. They call it 'cave music': like house music, but more primitive and jagged and raw. But there are no DJs or laptops here -- just one drum kit and two saxophones. The 'cave music' sound developed around an organic approach to playing electronic dance music. The looping, frenetic sax melodies and James's furious drumming are fierce and trance-like, as Mike and Wenzl rock back and forth, pushing and pulling each other from across the stage. Sometimes Wenzl switches over to a contrabass clarinet, or inserts a long cardboard tube into the bell of his sax to create the deep, throbbing whomp of a dubstep bassline. It's manic, and thrilling, and perhaps a little bit evil.

Option 22 - Choose the Music CD Option 22 - Choose the Music CD - Option 22 is a progressive Americana/Worldbeat ensemble with a revolutionary vibe. Fierce and passionate female vocals dance atop a healing groove of instruments from around the world including banjo, guitars, didgeridoo, shamisen, djembes and other hand drums. Positive lyrics convey a message of unity and understanding and soulful melodies elevate listeners' consciousness. Dubbed by one listener a "new age jam band," their flavorful style is flexible, ranging from funky and rhythmic sounds to mellow and melodic, with each member bringing into the equation affinities for worldbeat, funk, folk, jamband music, newgrass, trance, reggae and rock. The music has no boundries, and one must listen to the full scope of it to understand, as each song is different. Their full-out drum jams send energy bouncing off the walls of any venue. Another listener dubbed the sound "hippie hop." The only category that truly seems fitting is "Other." With three albums of original music, their newest release, "Choose The Music," is available now. It features 12 Original Songs spanning styles from newgrass to space-folk to alterna-rock world funk. No matter what you call it, it's good music.

Skatalites - Bashaka CDSkatalites - Bashaka CD - Formed in 1963, the Skatalites were the creme de la creme of Jamaica's musical talent at the time. Their music was a powerful synthesis of American R&B, combined with swinging, jazzy "take off" solos, forming in the process something uniquely Jamaican - the first music to come out of the post-war colonial independence movement of the West Indies. The Skatalites backed every singer of note in the island's studios and cut hundreds of instrumentals under various names, thus laying the foundation for today's Jamaican music. 'Bashaka' is a celebration of the 35th anniversary of the Skatalites formation. The music found here is smooth, swinging and vibrant. Producer Stamma Haughton has a first hand feel for the music of the original Skatalites and the combination of solid tunes, musical craftmanship, digital recording at a big studio makes this an album every ska fan should check out. Famed drummer and Grateful Dead co-founder Bill Kreutzmann and voodoo guitar master Papa Mali come together as 7 Walkers for their self-titled debut release, due out November 2, 2010 on Response Records. Together with legendary New Orleans bass man George Porter Jr. (The Meters, Funky Meters) and multi-instrumentalist Matt Hubbard (Willie Nelson, Fastball), the highly anticipated release features a batch of brand-new Robert Hunter (Grateful Dead and Bob Dylan lyricist) originals co-written with the band, a guest performance by Willie Nelson on ''King Cotton Blues'', and a few smokin' instrumentals. A self-proclaimed ''open love letter'' to the city of New Orleans, the end result is a fiery and funky collection of tunes that quite brilliantly capture a unique collaboration between two very different musical shamans.

Buckwheat Zydeco's Bayou Boogie CD Buckwheat Zydeco's Bayou Boogie CD - The Grammy-winning worldwide ambassador of Zydeco music is back again with a family dance party collection from the Bayou country of southwest Louisiana that pulls out all the stops... Smokin' accordion, rockin' Hammond B3 organ, rollicking rub-board and tasty guitar licks join together to create a musical gumbo of Creole culture that can almost be smelled and tasted.

Buck, his young friends, and some very familiar guest stars including LAURIE BERKNER, DAN ZANES, AARON NIGEL SMITH and MARIA MULDAUR guide children and parents through a mix of songs including some of the most family-friendly classic rock n' roll tunes - done in a Zydeco style as only Buckwheat can - plus great original songs that entertain and get kids moving while they teach. The result is a rich tribute to this unique melting pot of American culture.

Buck loves his home and culture in the bayous of southwest Louisiana. So what could be better than creating a party to get families movin' and groovin' to the music he loves, and giving them a little lesson in the rich Creole culture that is his roots?

Buckwheat Zydeco teamed up with Music For Little People in 1994 to release the beloved, award-winning children's album, 'Choo Choo Boogaloo.' Since then Buck says he hears all the time from fans young and old that 'I wore that album out when I was a kid' or 'that's how I got into Zydeco music' or 'we couldn't get in the car without my children asking me to put on 'Choo Choo.' Nothing makes him happier than hearing that.
